My rear heat shield rattled so much I finally removed it and added another mount near the bottom. Made the mount out of a piece of a hacksaw blade, (on a Sunday where I used to live there was nothing opened except the local coffee shop; I got sick of it rattling and did it on the spur of the moment) drilled a hole in each end of it, laid the heat shield on a wet cloth, two spot welds, done. It did leave two tiny black marks on the outside of the heat shield, which was much more acceptable. I did remove it and went to a different pipe setup, so now someone else is enjoying it.

Ratman has a roadhouse. The only one I know of that looks like this is this one, since it's the original design for the Super Chief Denny Berg built. I had a stock exhaust on mine for a couple of years, but when I got the Osprey bags, I decided to put the peace pipe back on, because of the retro look. I think it's looks more period correct with this exhaust and those studded and fringed bags....Now after getting some serious mileage put on it, the sound has changed, Much deeper than it was originally.

Good points, Troll.
But if I was a 1500's owner, I'd probably buy them and then go with the customization you're talkin' about.
I think, IMHO, they give such a real retro-look to our drifters.
Anybody know if there's something alike for the 800?

That's what I have on mine. They require a bit of modification if you want them to last. I'm not sure, exactly, but I'm estimating I have 30,000 miles on mine, and no cracks. I made some heat shields for it that Cobra didn't think of. The rear pipe heat shield as delivered is secured with one clamp. Not a good design. I almost lost it on the road coming back from Wyoming. I rubber mounted mine and it works great. Solidly mounted, it sends a vibe through the chassis. I know it's a rare piece. I paid $185 for mine back in 2009, new in the box still wrapped in 1999 California newspaper.
