I built my own lift adapter for my bike lift. The lift itself will barely fit under the bike; with the adapter on, it will not go under the bike. I solved that problem by putting a piece of 2x6 about a foot long and tapered on one end on the floor in front of both tires, roll the bike up on those, and then the jack slides right under. I' would like to know what bike lift that guy who sells the adapters uses; it looks to be a lower model than any I have seen.
it works really well and once you put the safety lock into the first spot it is really stable and steady. never have to worry about the bike falling over or anything. Only con is that it is a heavy piece of kit to move around under the bike and takes a bit to use.

So the wood blocks go to the rear, on either side of the mono shock?
*BUMP*
lol ok after all summer today I got the lift adaption finished, and painted........here it is now all finished. The wooden spacers are to keep the bike level while on the lift, they can not be on the lift until it is slid under the mono shock and the grease fittings in the swing arm......
think even OCD Mr perfect GB would approve of this other then the size of the welds......
Well my bike has been up here since I finished the main jack, and not an issue very stable and sturdy, I made the small jack for the weight transfer when I removed the wheels, just for my own piece of mind. Had the rear wheel off and not a issue, then replaced the wheel and removed the front one, no movement on the jack. I have worked on the bike, polished it and moved it around no issues, albeit I have used the safety catches so it can't go down. I am sure if I had an extra person and a cement floor or a floor I was not worried about I could move it about to put it away or move it to the middle of the floor.
So I am really happy with the turn out for $15.00 total cost I think I spent and the round of beer but that does not count....
Ratman, like you, I've struggled getting my 800 up and stable on the jack. I just came across this post and am getting caught up. I have a few ideas as well, that I'd like to try.
and in place the bike will not move forward as the tire is remove or tip backward...
ok because of the mono shock and the engine hanging down lower then the frame I madified the motorcycle jack to work, the bike has a slight lean forward and the front tire remains on the ground. as the forks extend, so to be safe I decide to get an old scissor jack ($10.00) at the wreckers, removed the top plate and put my own on it that was a bit larger and for this application I used a peice of wood for now, this will prevent the bike from moving forward when the rear tire is removed, and I can lift the front of the bike to bring the rear tire to the ground when I am removing the front tire, works for me....
thats a great idea John. I am going to have to keep my eyes open for a scaffolding setup.
Quote from: Drift1 on January 31, 2013, 04:47:09 AMI've heard of weight loss plans but that's a bit extreme..I plan on removing my rear this weekend
Seriously though, when I am doing major work I use a scaffold tower to support the bike with straps, that way I can push pull and rock the bike without fear of it falling over..
John.
Can't wait to see your pics of your work in progress. You know, honestly you should document taking both the rear and front tire off with pics for tips/mods section.Chief told me he would like to add more to that section of the forum.Just a thought. If not I plan on removing my rear this weekend
You can post pics......just none with people in them!
ok spent the day hunting up an old scissor jack.....man some hard to find them when you want one......got a couple of ideas for it and I'll run them by here once I get some time for posting it, I'll have to ask permission from PC to post a few more pictures, seems he is shy of me posting pictures for some reason.......
