Imho, you should change your sprockets when you replace the chain; less chance of premature wear. Wouldn't hurt to check your wheel bearings while you're at it. The noise might just be chain noise due to a worn chain; possibly misalignment,
been a lot of years since I have run chain final on a bike. Good luck with it and post when you find the problem; all info is useful.

I got my Drifter in March and have put about 4000 miles on it. I've tightened the chain three times, but now it seems to be making a "chuffing" noise when I accelerate, especially up hills. It stops when I get to speed on the level. I measured the chain as the manual directs and it's right at the 323 mm mark, so I'm going to replace the chain. My question is, is this noise chain related or something else, like a bearing? Thanks

PS Put my Drifter in the local car show last weekend and got lots of pictures and comments--nothing else like it in my town.
