I use full synthetic (Amsoil for bikes) and K&N oil filters in both my goldwing and drifter... have done for 9 seasons now. So long as you don't use oil with friction modifiers you are ok. I like synthetic because its hard to overheat (and breakdown) and deals with condensation much better than fossil oil.
amsoil bike runs cooler and make sure which filter you have some 1500 have diffrent filter
I get both oil & filter at the local Autozone here.
I talked to the local Kawasaki Dealer that said the same thing. go with the Mobil 1 V-Twin. The chemical make up is different mainly for the wet clutch.
Thanks for the info on the filter and screen. Iw ill look for the filter around here. Yes I do like made in the USA!
I have used the Mobil 1 V Twin 20-50 oil since I purchased my drifter. I like it, really seems to quiet the motor. It is not supposed to be the same as the Auto version. Watch out for Friction Modifiers, that is what messes up the wet clutches it our bikes.
Filter is at the rear of the motor, just ahead of the rear wheel swing arm. If your "converter" has been removed it is very easily reached from underneath.
I use the Bosch 3300 filter on mine. It has metal interior valves and 'advanced filter media', also Made in USA; if you care about such things.
On the oil change, be sure to clean the screen, located behind the larger plug on the oil pan.
I am getting ready to do my first oil change on my Drifter. any suggestions on oil? I saw Mobil 1 V-Twin but isn't that the same as regular Mobil 1? just different packaging? Also where is the filter?
and what kind should I get?
Thanks for the help
