Yeah, I believe a see a single hole on each side up under the leather... can't tell for sure at this angle.

At first I thought it was a seat for another model... I can't trace the 130828 number but the 1942 is part of the 2001 PN for the superseded seat... 53001-1942-MA, with the current PN being 53001-1991-MA.

Something isn't making any sense here....There seem to be no studs for mounting the seat brackets...Makes you wonder how it was attached. I found a picture on ebay of a stock vulcan seat (same seat pan) with the brackets installed. I see Chief beat me to the punch. I'll post it anyway. The bosses are supposed to be drilled with 2 studs coming through the plastic seat pan on each side. They are 6x1.25 mm by about 12 mm long. I would suspect that the studs are welded to a flat plate inserted through the seat pan before the foam and cover are attached. The seat cover comes off pretty easily, as it is stapled on, but you need a heavy duty stapler to put it back. I replaced the cover on mine with the mustang cover and stapled it in place just like the oem...p.s. Harley staples them on too. All is not lost, you just have to get creative. Harley uses those "riv-nuts" to attach their brackets to the plastic seat pan, so once you locate the proper place to put them, that might be a viable option. If you use them, then you won't have to remove the cover.  Here is the wikipedia entry for the rivnut. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivet_nut    Google rivnut and you can learn all about them.

Ok... attached is a diagram of the solo and two up...

Sounds like the person who sold you the bike had a solo, kept the "L" brackets and put the seat back on improperly.

Look at the diagram of the two-up. You will see the two brackets under the seat... no PN.

You have to remove all the hardware under there to install a solo. All of that goes - not the footpegs obviously.

The "L" brackets are usually removed from one seat and applied to the other.

Now look at the solo... you will see the brackets there.

Maybe we can get someone to pull their oem solo and show where the brackets are installed.

Since you don't have those brackets you will have to fabricate some. There is no part number and no other way to get them. You will almost NEVER get the brackets with a used seat... unless its a seat off a wreck.

The seat is attached to the bike at the front, but requires the two side brackets - on ALL 1500 seats regardless. I wouldn't ride the bike without those brackets. The bolts next to PN 92151 in the drawing are also needed.

It was assumed the seat you had on the bike was installed correctly with the proper hardware... good lesson for us! Check it!  Sorry you are having these problems.

There is a mod on the web site for making the L brackets. I think the bolt size is there as well. You are gonna need these no matter what seat you use.

The 99/00 seat was a bit different from the 01 and later. Those had rubber bumpers (red in pic below)... in 01 when kaw went to the solo as oem.. they used a plastic mud guard instead. You don't have to have that.

Take a pic of the bottom of your two-up, and post it if you will.

You are missing what seems to be one of the most difficult pieces to find. On the bottom of both seats there should be 4 studs , two on each side, near the rear of the solo seat, about midway on the 2 up. Kawasaki does not sell them. Most end up building them.

ok, so I got the bike here, I pulled off the 2 up and the arm and grab bar.

Now the solo seat I bought doesnt have any hardware when I bought it I was told I would use the hardware that is holding the 2 up seat.
I even posted a pic somewhere to check the bottom of the seat with someone.

But I cant see anything that I can use as hardware or anything to mount this seat.

I put the seat on the front tank washer and it sits nicely on the seat rails, but there are no brackets or anything that extend to the seat and there doesnt appear to be anywhere to install a bracket to use to mount it.
Can someone show me a pic of their solo seat off the bike and the under side of the seat as well as the seat place on the bike with the seat not on it?
I need to see what I am missing here.

The two up only connected by one screw in the rear that held the seat to the black arm and grab bar, and the gas tank washer in front, thats it.

The solo seat doesnt have a screw coming out of it to attach anywhere, I am a bit lost, but before I ship my seat off I need to make sure I can use this solo seat.

I have it on there only connected to the gas tank washer and it looks great and I supose while I am sitting on it it will be ok, but I know it isnt right
I would appreciate any help you guys can offer me
Thanks in advance,

Well just spoke to the wife, unless we get her bike before June I am going to need the seat for Americade and Laconia, so that being the case I would be selling it in mid June, unless of course I can find a bike for her by then for $3k or less.

I definitely plan on selling it to help offset the stuff I need.
My wife will get one ride then it is gone!!
I will need the l brackets to mount my new solo seat but anything else I will sell with the seat.
I have been marking and watching all drifter seats for a couple of weeks now to ge an idea of what to expect, they seem to sell pretty fast, this one is in very good shape, the bike only has 5k miles on it and they previous owner used a solo seat so this one was hardly ever used at all.

I need/want so many things that anything I can sell to help has to go, lol thats how I bought the bike and seat and things I have been buying all week, I cleaned out my studio, garage, and hobby room and turned all my junk into a nice drifter, lol.

Thanks again for all your help.
I pick up the bike in 10 days and when I get it home and swap the seat I will post some pics.

Yeah, what Troll said...

Now, all of the underlying hardware has to be removed. All that holds a solo on is the two "L" brackets and the "nose" bracket (which should be same as on the two-up).

If you are planning to sell the double, sell that hardware with it... folks require it to convert from solo to double. If you do plan to sell it, send me an email with a price and I may purchase it for resale.

That's a stock 2-up with a Mustang (discontinued) cover with fringe and conchos. I reupolstered my stock solo with a mustang cover for a nomad. I had to order it by phone, because they don't make one for a drifter, and they were worried that it wouldn't fit, and they would have to do a refund, etc. etc. etc. Bottom line, the front seat for a 2 piece vulcan/nomad, at least from '98 on , is the same. I added fringe, and cut the  skirt off the old cover and had it sewn on. I decided to add the button tufts as an afterthought....

Great I think I am all set then,.
Here is a pic of my bike with the seat that it has on it now.

I think it is a stock seat, at least it looks like th stock seat with fringe.

Thanks again for helping me with this.

Yep, as long as you don't have a custom seat on there now... the oem brackets have to be moved from seat to seat... or you have to make an extra set.

So your saying I wont need to buy any because I have the L brackets on the bike now with my stock seat?

Thats what I was hoping to hear.
These seats dont come up very often and especialy at the price I paid so I am really happy that it is going to work.
Thanks for looking Chief.

Yes, you have to take the "L" brackets off your existing seat and put them on that seat.

Unfortunately, you cannot purchase these brackets from Kaw... but you can make some if you are so inclined... Yes, there is a pattern etc on the mods/tips portion of the accessories board.

Or you can go directly to the mod... http://www.VulcanDrifterRiders.com/seatbracket.html

Hey guys,
The seat came today, can someone look at the bottom and tell me for sure this is right?

It does not look like the bottom of the seat another member has for sale and showed me.

I wonder if it is because the brackets or mounts arent included.

The guy I bought it from said that the mounting bracket was not included and that when I pulled off my stock seat I would be able to use that mounting bracket.

I just want to make sure I have the right seat and the bracket that is on the bike now will work to mount this properly.

I assume so but I just would like to hear someone who knows for sure tell me it will be ok, lol.
I will see about postiong a pic, otherwise I will put it up in my gallery.

I attached a pic of the bottom of the seat so if anyone could let me know if this is going to work on my bike so I Can take a deep breathe and relax that would be great, lol.
Thanks everyone,
Lump
