Well, we (TN) pay a couple of fees... a privilege tax of $25 and the registration fee... unless you get a vanity plate it costs less than $50 regardless of the vehicle. Of course when you title the vehicle in TN you have to pay or show you have paid sales tax.

There are some states in the US that charge "property tax" on vehicles that is due every year when your license renews.  OHIO is NOT one of them, thankfully, but they charge you for plenty of other stuff.   This Property tax is based on the vehicle's value, and from what I can understand can be quite high.   Nothing like paying for a vehicle 2 or three times over the course of time that you own it...

A guy that worked for me transfered out from Washington state, where they have the property tax.  He was moving in to Virginia, which also has the vehicle tax.  It ended up he had to back pay Washington, and ALSO pay Virginia.  So in other words, he paid two vehicle taxes and couldn't get out of it.

ok time for another lesson on Canada for Mr. GreenBarn......

I have listed what is required in Ontario for your M/C license. Quebec is different. Ontario does not have the mandatory course. We have a graduated license system. We also do not have immatriculation. We have to have our insurance paid, and we pay for our tags yearly or every two years. As for my grumpy mood....never, I am for the most part upbeat and good to go...........money is not needed we just need enough to ride.....

just want to add the Quebec-Canada way for motorcycle license.
-Mandatory course (16 hours theory, 22 hours practice (16 hours closed vircuit, 5 hours on the road) 700$
-after the theory you have to pass a computer test to get a licence to drive during the course 30$ wait 28 days if you fail and pay again!
-A month after your first test if you completed the course with success you can pass the MOST closed course ability test 80$, wait a month if you fail and pay again!
-If you succeed you have an apprentice licence, wich give you the right to ride with another driver that has been licensed for over two years. Tolerance to alcool is 0 and you can't ride with a passenger.
-12 month after this test you have to pass a road test 100$ so you can finally drive alone! waith two month if you fail and pay again!
-you are now really happy you get your final licences wich cost about 90$ annually, and buy a nice bike that cost between 500$ or 1200$ annually for immatriculation alone, depending is it's considered a sport bike or not.

So for the first year it is a big investment between 1500$ and 2200$ not counting the motorcycle and even after that they still get a lot of money out of your pocket!

MAN, so the $500-$1200 annual "immatriculation" (I had to look that one up btw) is more or less a "property tax" ???

That all adds up to a BUNCH of dough.  It's no wonder Ratman is usually in such a grumpy mood!   ;D   Well, it's a good thing he's got all that money under his mattress, so he can afford to ride!!!

We were sold that same bill of goods. Just as an example, one of the biggest employers in  LaCrosse moved to china, shut down it's factory here, and now its a 100 empty building with a so-so restaurant in it. La Crosse Footwear used to be a big deal, now it's fake chinese crap. All the unions were told about the potential land of milk and honey, but they all got vinegar.

Yep La Crosse was a good brand... no more IMHO.

Although some of my posts may seem to be moaning about the way things are..they are not intended as a moan, or a boast, they are just information about the other side of the English speaking world..Although I may not seem happy with things the way they are, I am still happy to live in Britain as it si now..my complaints are not really complaints about the country but more a nostalgia for the way things used to be..

I visited the USA in the mid sixties and loved the country, at that time I was in my early twenties and found that the country ran in much the same way as Britain, Australia and New Zealand did at that time, sure you had a successful space program but you also had old valve TV's and radios, we had the same mix of old and new and a fair share of American companies..I worked for Bell & Howell, Kodak, and 3M at different times. and my travels around the world gave me a hunger for interaction with different people and a need to learn more of the way others lived..One thing I did learn is that you can never go back and expect the places and people to remain unchanged, and if you stay in one place you don't notice the changes as much as someone who left and has come back...

Silly to add to the motorcycle test post, but it's still just information..

John.
