I can't help ya out, sorry.
But I'd really like to see the whole assembly, as I'm thinkin' about adding a sidecar to ma-deuce...
PICS, please! ::)
As I remember, Continental, Avon and Metzeler all make side car specific tires. The flat profile is better than a rounded motorcycle profile, since you will not be leaning. They are not suitable for use without the side car, do to that design.
Bike tires are measured in even numbers.. 130, 150, 170 etc, while car tires end in 5... 135, 155, 175...
That number is the width in mm. I think 175 is the largest you will be able to use width wise.
Sidewall height is the next number - I'd stick with something close to the oem, but I think there is a pretty wide usable range there. Sorry can't be of more assistance.
so i delivered the other bike for dissasemble (need to take off the sidecar from an Izh Planeta 5...a wierd russian bike)..going to deliver my Drifter next week..looking forward to get it back..pics will come when finished
140 mm is close enough to 5.5" -- which might help you with finding the right tire.
i went 150 on mine .. the width is NO ISSUE, but the overall diameter would be the limiters, first ..
echoing other's comments, i wouldn't consider taking an 800 "dark side" unless it was in some trike configuration ---
and to add emphasis,the side car's connection points WILL BE STRESSED when turning the bike, like a car .. that's how trikes work .. be ready to run wide and take correction accordingly
