how do i remove the chrome ring on the head light?

Yup, a 1500 is the same way, but my screws are chrome.

I don't think the "screws" will be on the chrome portion.  Check the headlight "bucket" (as it is referred to) and you should find two (?) black screws that hold the trim ring on to the bucket.  They will be on the "bottom" portion only.   If you unscrew those and pull the bottom portion out first it should allow you access to the back of the headlight.

At least that's the way it is on my 800.  Hope that helps.
