Personally, I'd do all the pm's up to 25k. These are listed in the manual, owner's manual, and on our site under mods/tips.

Yes all items you mentioned are good areas to take care of. Also, try to get a copy of the owners manual as it lists necessary and routine maintenance items. Unless you feel good about the plug wires being replaced recently I would certainly replace those. It may be time to change the engine coolant with the fresh stuff, you dont need coolant system corrosian and crud.
Battery; when they start to go you may get a good start and then later it will not crank over fast enough to start reliably If it does this get a new battery now! Don't be fooled into thinking a charge will do it, you will be sorry, new battery = quick and powerful starting.  Change rear differential gear lube. Now all you should have to do is gopherit.

Hi  Everyone - New to the forum. Just picked up a 22K mile 1999 Drifter 1500 - Looking for suggestions on what should be inspected and or any maintenance that members would do immediately before I start putting miles on the bike.

Here's the history as I know it...
1) 2nd owner bike was ridden < 500 miles in the last year. Kid bought it from his neighbor and hasn't ridden it much or done any maintenance so he wasn't much help. I put my hands on the jugs ice cold and it fired right up, idled fine and shifted well through the gear range up to 60 mph with good throttle response and decent brakes for a cruiser. Light surface corrosion around the head pipe connectors and the bolts for the front and rear rotors. Speedometer sometimes gets "stuck" at speed before it returns back to "0" so I figure it needs a new cable and/or speedo head.
2) Mods: Original and Corbin Seats with saddlebags included, V&H Long shots (unknown if anything was done to the computer but it didn't pop on decel) and the original pipes, new Metzler front tire (he said the old one kept losing air).

I've got several older bikes, but this is my first shaft drive and FI bike so I'm entering into new territory with maintenance. I've ordered the Clymer manual as well but was hoping that members could provide suggestions:

My initial thoughts are the following:
1) Clean and Inspect Air Filters and re-oil/replace as necessary
2) New Plugs and clean and inspect the wires
3) Change Oil and Filter
4) Drain and Replace coolant
5) Drain/replace/bleed the front and rear brakes
6) Service for the driveshaft???
7) Drain and Replace Gas with Seafoam additive to clean out the fuel system?

Sorry for the long text but wanted to give as much detail as possible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Frank
