Sprocket... for the chain...

Due to the floating fender there is a limited number of seats, backrests, etc that will natively fit the 800.  The KAW and aftermarket parts are hard to find as well since the bike is unique and no longer in production. Monitor this forum, ebay, etc for used parts and part finds. Also have a look over in the accessories area of the web site. We try to keep that area current. Also, Mods section over there has some relative mods.

Am a fairly new rider.. I get apx 130-140 on a tank with my Drifter.. what's a "sprocket change"??
Also, am having a very hard time finding a sissy bar & pad that will my 800.. what's up with that?? appreciate any tips?

Thanks everyone for your relies! Sure enough, I've been averaging about 120 miles before going to reserve. Having just done a sprocket swap on my other bike (a 2002 Honda Shadow 750 A.C.E....swapped out a 41T rear sprocket for a 38T) I've seen the advantages in greatly reduced rpms at highway speeds and will do the 18/38 change to the Drifter as well.

Wow I've had my 800 for about 3 years now and I get  around 170 mikes before reserve. and average 200-210 miles on the tank.. and that's around town riding.. I get about 240 miles per tank highway.. 100% stock....

Don't know if it makes a difference... I'm in Colorado

150 as about right for me on my last trip with the stock gearing.  Have yet to go on a long ride with the new gearing.

I still do want the new mondo drive from scootworks.  Bash all ya like.

With stock gears, I get about 150 miles to reserve, but thats on the highway driving 55 to 60 mph.

My last two tanks with 18/39 gears...137 and 140 before hitting reserve.

My 18/38 sprockets bumped me from 45 to 50 mpg in the city .. probably a little higher on the highway !

Thanks for the responses! I just wanted to make sure that I was in the right range as the Drifter is new to me. I'm definitely interested in hearing how much of a change the 18/38 sprocket combo makes. Please keep me updated.

Last month, my daughter was in a minor accident in her car.  She was unhurt, but her car was in the shop for 3 weeks for repairs.  I lent her my car and started riding my Drifter to work (Heh, heh).  I drive 19 miles each way, almost all are highway.  I got about 118-126 per tank, so your figures are about right.  I am looking to make the sprocket change in the near future.

Yeah I was hitting reserve between 120-130 like clockwork.  Just switch over to 18/39 gears so I will let you know how much it helps.  Have one or two Iron Butt rides planned for later this summer and wanted just a bit more between fill ups.

Thanks for the info Mike! I just got the bike this past Tuesday and topped up the tank as soon as I got it into town. When I was riding last night it hesitated and I had to go to reserve at 119 miles on the trip meter and was surprised. After having gotten used to having a 180 mile cruise range on my last bike it just caught me off guard and I was just wanting to verify that I was in the approximate ballpark.

Wth stock 17/40 gearing...you'll be lucky to get 130miles before reserve.  (2.9Xgals to reserve, 1.0 gal. reserve)  I was able to raise that figure to 145miles by switching to the 18 tooth front sprocket.  I also went to a 38 tooth rear recently but unfortunately, I sold the bike before I could give it a real shakedown.  Have fun!  Mike in TX

Hey everyone, I would like to know approximately how many miles your guys average on a full tank before hitting reserve. I'd like to get an idea of what is the norm since this bike is new to me.
