The fuel pump should run for 2 seconds when you key it up. Does this bike have an aftermarket ign. switch? This is an important question.

Hello everyone!  I received my 2001 Drifter 1500 from the family of a good friend of mine.  Before he died he had the tank apart and had installed a new fuel pump.  Ive been around this bike since he purchased it new and rides it many times over the years, but it has been sitting due to his poor health for the better part of 8-10yrs.  The bike was in pieces and I had to put it all together not knowing for sure what he had unhooked or removed.  The bike is heavily modified anyway, so I am slightly unsure what is needed to be hooked up and what might be options not installed.  That being said... when I finally had it all back together and bolted together, I turned the key and nothing...  I can not hear the fuel pump at all and the sending unit doesn't seem to be reading any value of what is in the tank for fuel level.  Everything else works and the starter turns the motor over just fine, but will not even attempt to fire off.  So my question for you all is should I be hearing the pump run, it has been years since I have risen this bike and I can't remember.  Can you all tell me what electrical I should be checking and where that piece or pieces live on the bike?  I know there is a fuse and relay, just not sure which one or what one I am messing with...  Also, would this potentially be ECU related and if so what test(s) I should run to determine this.  Any help at all will be VERY MUCH appreciated!  Jim
