Those "gold" flecks are brass from the white-metal ring that goes between the crankshaft and the con rod .

Rather than take the engine apart , just Cut the oil filter open , remove the paper filter and fan it out .

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
