53Indian, maybe that exhaust is from the japanise "Webike" (see: japan-webike.com): I've seen some like that, years ago, when I was lookin' for a 2-1 ehaust sistem with fishtail.
VFN8, sorry for hijackin' your post...  :)

I love my swingin' bike!

Thank you 53Indian for the thoughtful reply. Your comment about the factory keyed ignition switch was spot on. If you order the ebay switch like I did they have the 100 ohm resistor wired incorrectly and will not work as is. I went back and wired up the tank mounted Harley style switch and poof many issues are taken care of. I also have now replaced everything from fuel pump to injectors, lines, filter, and clean the little screen on the fuel pressure reg.

As it's sits now it will start easily on starting fluid but dies once that's used up so it appears I'm still not getting fuel. Next step check fuel pressure. I can hear the pump prime and shut off so that's good any other ideas? I have the power commander 3 which possibly complicates things I wonder should I remove it to simplify things at this point ?

Did you replace the ignition switch with a genuine Kawasaki one?
(Looks like a Harley style one on the tank)
Check the next post down.
(Much credit to Drifter-Paul)

If it's all good, check the usual stuff:
Wiring under clutch lever
Side stand switch
Tilt switch
Kill switch (mine had come apart inside housing causing similar problems to yours)
Starter relay
Starter solenoid
Fuses

Bike looks really well - never seen that style exhaust before, any markings on it? (I want one!)
Might wanna get a seat off a regular VN1500 for more comfort though (original Drifter seats are super rare)

Good luck!

I have a 99 Drifter 1500 I just picked up and has been sitting for some time with the gas cap off. Long story short I replaced the fuel pump as it was clogged to the gills with dirt. Swapped out the keyed ignition switch and now I have a crank but no start condition and the FI light is on but won't go into diagnostic mode it just stays solid. I also have no spark at the plugs....any help greatly appreciated I can't wait to ride this thing!!
