I swapped a 2003 1600 classic engine into my 2001 Drifter 1500.  The 1600 classic engine has two stators; an inner and an outer  I'm pretty sure the 2000 1500 classic engine is the same...I just plugged in the outer one to my existing harness and left the other unplugged and taped off (like an unused wall plug according to my electrician friend)  Only other thing I had to change was the throttle body setup for the fuel tank connections.....other than that, it went right in and all the other plug connections work just fine.  Since the engine is separate from the speedometer, you shouldn't really have any issue using the cable speedometer.  The rest of the wiring harness should be compatible with the new motor.  Just take a lot of pictures of the connections before you take the old engine out.  I documented a bunch of the work in previous posts.....I really like the 1600 engine...slightly more hp but quite a bit more torque.

Hello members I'm in need of some guidance here I have a 99 1500 Drifter that has a bent shift Fork. I bought a donor bike which is a 2000 1500 classic to swap Motors. I would like to use the wiring harness from my 99 but some of the connections on the stator side of the 2000 look different from mine. Also the 2000 had has a electronic speedometer and 99 has a mechanical speedometer. I would like to keep my mechanical speedometer. Am I going to be able to use my 99 wiring harness on this 2000 motor also do I need to switch computers to run the 2000 or can I use my 99 computer? Both are fuel injected. Thanks in advance
