I've never seen a plug look like this . It appears you are correct. Normal.
Thanks for your help... I'm going for a ride :)

The side electrode is covered in a white chalky residue , and from  I've read , indicates  a lean condition.

I managed to feed a small tube through the vent line. I sealed the bottom where the tube exits the tank.
Will check in the morning.
If this doesn't work , I will remove the tank, check for leak and probably put a liner in the tank.

No leak so far but have a different problem now. The bike was running pretty rich so I remove the dynojet module and now the plugs have a chalky white covering on them. I'm assuming it's running lean now. Geesh!! All I want to do is ride :(

Hole patched ... all is good, no leaks.

Bad news!!! Leaking fuel again but just a very slight drip and I believe it's coming from the same vent tube but not quite sure yet!
This is very frustrating!!
I guess my next move would be to possibly line the tank.
I'm currently building a shed in my backyard so this will have to wait .

OP has found a pin hole in the tank vent line and is currently planning to patch it. That is the likely source of the problem. Will update when/if more info is available.

Posted this on fb and hoping someone has an answer. I cleaned out some rust in gas tank and now fuel is leaking from under the bike out of a breather tube. It's a constant leak with short surges.
Up by the gas cap you can hear the gas surging from the little breather hole .
I'm hoping I didn't damage anything inside the tank.
Thoughts?

I am assuming you didn't overfill.
Sounds like it may be siphoning?  Does it still leak with the cap open?  From memory, there are two hoses coming off the tank, one from the fuel pump area and one on the bottom right rear from the cap.

Trace the hose ... if it is from the fuel pump area, it may be a bad fuel pump gasket. If it is from the other hose, your gas cap ventingmay not be working right, or there may be a leak into the vent tubing. Usually the cap venting clog results in fuel leaking from the cap. We have a mod for that.

If it is neither of these, trace that hose and let us know where it goes.

Leaking gas cap - Not the same symptoms as yours, but could be a venting issue. https://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/gascap.html

I had one of these fitted, made hardly any difference.

You might wanna modify the r/h air filter, that should help smooth it out.

(Remove the two air valves, tuck away the wiring and plug the breather pipe - runs quieter too)

There's a guide out there somewhere.

Found it. Has a power commander III . Will watch some videos to reset everything and hopefully fix the richness!

Just purchased a gorgeous 01 drifter 1500. . Only 20,000 on the clock! But.... Po informed me that the po before him put some type of an aftermarket fuel computer( can't remember what the term was) but it has something to do with the fuel. It also has an aftermarket exhaust on it. He did say it runs rich. Upon startup black smoke but then clears. Bike runs fine but have not checked the plugs yet.
Any ideas on a fix for it running rich? Where would this aftermarket fuel thingy be on the bike so I can post a pic of it.
Thanks for your help!
