Thanks for posting this.  Wish I had known about this last year when I pried my speedo apart thinking there was an internal problem - there wasn't - turned out the inner cable was too long.  I would love to have a black face speedo for my 99.

There's a company in Poland, Venoxy, that do replacment faces, if that's all you need.
I've used them, not bad quality, but the '99 cable speedo faces are tricky to replace.
Later ones are easier.
Wear gloves, sharp edges.
The metal ring around the speedo needs to be peeled off with a sharp screwdriver then re-crimped back into place with pliers.
Use a couple of tea spoons to prize the needle off, making sure of the positioning.

You could compare part numbers, but my guess is the part numbers are different because I think the Nomad speedo is black ??  In any case, If it's from the same year (year is probably not critical, at least for 1500/1600's) and they're either both from FI or both from carbed bikes, and both have electric, or cable driven speedos, my guess is they're swappable.

Just brought my 99 home and the speedometer is an ugly mess.  Works, but I want to replace it.  Is a nomad speedometer compatible?
