yeah...don't blame you.  I got lucky on the 1600....it had 1 mile on it....a guy bought the bike brand new and got hit less than a mile from the dealership and the bike was totaled out.  The wrecked bike sat in a salvage warehouse for 18 years until a motorcycle parts company bought all the wrecked bikes.  paid $1200 including shipping for it.  I picked up the 1500 engine for the meanstreak just a few miles from my work...it was from another totaled bike with 13,700 miles on it.  Got it for $1200 too.  So far I've had pretty good luck on finding engines...

I only had one issue with the 1600.....someone swiped the clutch pack out of it and threw some old parts back in loose....I made the seller refund me the amount I had to spend on a complete new clutch.....so it worked out fine...they apologized profusely and didn't blink an eye at giving me back $200.  Everything else was in pristine shape on the motor other than a couple of small broken off cooling fins on rear cylinder the just behind and below the the right side air intake....can't even see them unless you really look....I guess that was the side that got munched.

Thats what I was kind of assuming, I'm going to wind up passing on the mean streak engine it's a 12 hour round trip ride to pick it up. I'm thinking about attempting to replace the rod bearings, and if it gets much more difficult than that I'll have to consider alternatives. I can't justify spending 1200 on a used high mileage motor from ebay that could potentially have the same issues.

I did a swap with my 2001 1500 Drifter to a 2003  1600 classic engine.  the only issues were the fuel line configuration (I had to swap some of the components from my 1500 throttle body to the 1600) and the fact that the 1600 has two stators (I just left one unplugged and taped off)......but I also recently did an engine replacement on a 2008 meanstreak 1600 with a Vulcan 1500 and there were no issues at all.  But I used the original throttle body on the new engine....

you should be able to switch them out with no problem....just be sure you go over all the electricals first to make sure everything matches up....and you may need to use the whole throttle body setup from your drifter engine

So I spun a rod bearing this weekend. I want to take the time to rebuild the engine properly but want to enjoy the rest of the riding weather this year. I found a mean streak donor bike. I was wondering if I would be able to do an even swap of the motors or would I need to swap everything from electronics to the pipes. Thanks in advance
