These bikes are pretty low now... lowering 3 inches will mean you REALLY have to watch where you ride.  IMHO

another way to lower the seat is buy a plain tractor style chopper seat. it can sit lower depending on what length springs you use in the back.

The 800 Drifter can be lowered up to 3" by using shorter sshocks in the rear (3" shorter = a 3" drop) and by using progressive springs in the forks (depending on the spacers in the spring kit used, you get your drop).  Atleast, thats my understanding of it.  You can also shave & recontour the seat.  I was just looking into that last night and came across this link: http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/

My wife is "vertically challenged" in the leg department.  She is somewhat on the shorter side and doesn't have long legs to reach the ground comfortably on some larger size cycles (i.e. Drifter 800 / 750 honda / etc.).

When cycle owners "lower" their bikes exactly what are they doing ?  Where would I start on a 1999 Drifter 800 that I just purchased with her in mind.  I'm already looking at solo seats but would like to hear what is involved with lowering a stock Drifter.  I've heard 3" is attainable but at what cost to clearance, etc.
