solo springer seat for drifter 1500

you can do what I did with my 800 stock seat that I had before I went to the 1500.  I sent it to an upholstery shop and had them rework it with a gel pad insert and memory foam.  they then put the stock cover back on and sent it back.  total cost was about $170 including shipping.  the seat was way more comfortable than stock.  Planning on doing the same thing with my black oem seat on my 1500.  I already have a modified stock seat in brown that works great on long rides....I got a Saddleline seat cover and re-worked the seat foam myself with a gel pad and memory foam kit.

That seat does look good on your bike. I,however would need a seat that is more confortable for long distance touring. I probably will just keep what I have. I'm a little concerned with the springer seat because I weigh 280.

Also, I bought both seats off of ebay...on is a La Rosa (black leather with embossed flames) and the other is the brown leather one (from India).  I have completes sets of bags and accessories in black and brown so I can change out the look of the bike.  I do like the look of the solo springer seat, especially with no saddlebags, but the two bag bracket mounting points are really noticeable when you have one on the bike....sort of detracts from the look a little bit.  I saw a 1500 on the web with a solo seat one time, where the owner had cut the mounting points off and ground them down smooth and rounded....but that would the preclude you from ever mounting bags again on the bike....and I need room to carry stuff...

I have mounted both a brown leather solo seat and a black leather one on my 1500.  I have used both scissor springs and barrel springs....ideally for me the 3" springs are the correct height in either form...the scissor springs give more flexing and smooth the ride out a little more...if I could find 4" ones they would probably be better since I weigh about 245.  I drilled the crossmember under the seat and put to threaded rivets in it to mount a steel plate on which the seat springs are attached.  then the T-bar mounts to the tank bolt (used a slightly longer one) and the seat.  3 bolts and it comes right off....it takes a little playing around with the positioning to get it right but I like the way it looks and sits.  It just isn't comfortable for any real length of time riding....after a steady 1/2 hour, my butt starts to go numb and then begins aching....    Looks cool, though

 I saw a picture of a drifter 1500 with a springer solo seat similar to the type that is on the old 1940's Indians and Harleys. I'm not talking about the big buddy seat just a solo seat. Does anyone have a website where they are available for me to look at? I kinda like that they are somewhat higher than the solo seat on my 20002 drifters 1500. Maybe brackets are available to raise my solo seat a little, I don't know? If anyone knows please let me know.
