Nice bike, and welcome to the group.  That's a neat story on how you got your bike!

No Worries

Welcome aboard!
If you're lookin' for some ideas & advices for your new project, you're in the right place: there's a bunch of nice fellas ready to help you out. Just ask.
And nice scoot you've got.
All I can tell you, as a 800 owner too, is that the bike is a smooth ride experience and a sure turn-heads!
Ride safe.

I love my swingin' bike!

Hi folks, not much to show here, just wanted to say hi is all. I plan to hang around these forums a bit on my journey with my new bike.

My name's Red, from the Wind River area of Wyoming. Been riding motorcycles a long time, currently have a bunch of old Hondas and a KZ750 which I think is pretty cool. I hang out on ChopCult if anybody here does too.

A Drifter 800 was always my dream bike since being in high school - just never could shell out the money for one (all my bikes have been $500 barn projects). This last year I finally had some money saved and I decided I was going to start looking. Only been waiting ten years, LOL.
I ended up finding a really pretty bike on Craigslist in Portland, OR. I talked to the guy on the phone and grilled him on the bike. Low miles, new tires, he was an older guy that just kept it in the garage. Was really honest about everything. I talked him down on the price. Got it for a steal.
A buddy I used to outfit with lives in Portland (and he's a mechanic now, to boot) so I hatched a plan. He's been trying to come back out and visit me for a few years now, but he drives an old Square Body Chevy and couldn't afford the gas (btw, I'm also a member on gmsquarebody.com, I drive a '77 K15). So being the creative guy I am, I said "hey, go check this bike out for me. If it checks out, buy it for me, use it for the summer, and drive it out to Wyoming and I'll fly you back." And that's exactly what we did.

So my pal bought the bike and got a kickass road trip out of it, we got to visit for a week and now I have a new Drifter of my own! Pretty good deal if you ask me!

Not much to show so far, just the baseline. All I've done is pull off the mirrors, front turn signals and some other assorted things that I consider junk.
In the future, I intend to do a completely custom overhaul of this bike - paint, blacked out chrome, passing lights, maybe a new seat - the works. But for now I'm just enjoying the ride for what it is, and thankful as all heck that I finally have my high school fantasy bike.  :)
