It turned out after putting the new carb in, it was a timing problem so, I just took it to Bob's Garage and being Harley guys they looked at it and ultimately fixed so now it runs right! Bob has set some records on Hayabusa's and on a double engine Harley on the Bonneville salt flats so, I guess he knows what is going on. The bike had a crack in one of the plates attached to the manifold, it was missing the VOES ( a vacuum electric switch effecting the timing), had a dual fire coil which it is supposed to have a single fire, checked the timing and adjust, shimmed the 6 piston front brake caliper that I had put on and put a different tooth front sprocket to lower the RPM's because it is too hectic at 70 mph. They did other things as check cable play, etc. and it was definitely worth every cent. Now it is time to ride those trips I had been planning. First shakedown is to the Central coast of California, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Paso Robles. The only problem is transiting LA. Early Sunday morning is the only time to go up and Tuesday or Wednesday at 12-1 pm for the trip south. You do not want to be on the Ventura freeway (101) any other time. It is Hell on wheels!

Well, I've ironed out all the fueling problems. Works pretty good. I notice that the engine runs better when it is thoroughly hot after about 10 miles. Finally rode it more than 60 miles-110 and it got me there and back! Pulled up to the gas station in Santa Ysabel and there was a guy with a beautiful fully restored Indian. I told him that it was a beautiful Chief and it was, however when I started riding, I thought that it might also be a Sport Scout as it was painted in the colors Fallon Brown and Indian red. Whatever it was, it was beautiful and started back up on the first kick. Very sorry to hear of the tragic accident in New Hampshire. I'd like to find out where the driver of the pickup truck is. His last name sounds like Russian collusion. Happy riding!

Well, about 4 weeks ago I sold the Drifter. She was an extremely dependable bike if one keeps up on the maintenance. My back is in not good shape and I just could not ride the bike anymore. Sold her to a very nice fellow about 45 miles north of me. He likes her quite well and had had a 1500 Vulcan in the past so he knew something about the bikes. Meanwhile I have been plugging away on the Harley as it had fueling problems that is, coughing and a flat spot between 2200 and 2800rpm. It is kind of disconcerting to have the bike on the freeway going 60-65 and it coughs like it is going to stall. So, after numerous times of changing jets, cleaning, soaking I just went ahead and bought a new S&S replacement. I still had to change the intermediate jet and up the size due to the ethanol in the fuel. To make a long story short, new tires, new oils throughout, PM 6 piston front caliper, new fork oil, rear rack installed, new battery, removed ape hangers and installed stock bars-whew!-all new cables, new spots and headlamp, new handgrips, new alternator and voltage regulator (American made), LED turn signals and rear taillight and probably some more that I can't remember. If I had taken the bike to Harley to have this done it would have cost a fortune! Now if I could just stopping working on it and go for a long ride...
