Welcome to the forum! It's great to see people sticking with bikes for so long! Congrats!

"When you're wearing a full face motorcycle helmet, people don't know who you are. So I just wander around and, yeah, it's pretty awesome.

Just take off the fuel tank, unplug both injector harnesses, and plug a noid light in either one. Crank the engine. Flashing light shows the ECU is working....check them both. If it's not flashing, take a test light and check for 12v on the white/red wire. If the scotch lock damaged the power circuit, then you will have to fix that. If the ground circuit is damaged, you will need to do the same. Damn scotchlocks are the bane of electrical diagnosticians existence. The circuit is VERY simple. 12v is applied via the ign switch. The ECU makes or breaks the path to ground to complete the circuit and fire the injector. The length of time the ground is completed is called the pulse width. That time is hard coded into the ECU and is based on which cell the engine is running in.

I found a Noid setup at Harbor Freight for about 30 bucks. Now I just have to find out how to use it! The Cobra 2000 controller was on the bike when I bought it, so I can't take credit for that one. I'm an old  CV carb guy so this FI throws me for a loop. I mean, I know how it operates and all...........just not a lot of experience with it on bikes. I didn't think the ECM could fail that easy.........but I was running out of answers to my questions.

Thanks for all the input guys

Like Troll said.... I've seen / heard of more no-start issues being caused by the add-on fuel controllers, than I have by bad ECU's.  Not saying an ECU can't go bad, I just haven't heard of too many of them.

No Worries

First thing to do is remove the fuel controller and restore the system to as issued condition. Those damn add on things cause SOOOO much grief!

I have a 2002 1500 with a no start condition. have checked all the electricals and am getting spark, fires with ether. Lights all work, fuel pump works, but no fuel. I think the ECM is junk and I need to know what ECM's are compatible to my bike. I see them on Ebay for varying prices, I don't know whether to get one from a Nomad, or a Vulcan Classic or what. I heard that the tuning setup for the Drifter was a little different than the other 1500's. I have a Cobra 2000 Fuel setup(It lights up too) with pot settings at 3-3-0 and it ran great last fall, and in December............this Spring.........Nada!         A little help please

Welcome to the forum litteman, and welcome to the Drifter.  Hope you get it figured out soon...   I don't know too much more than what Troll said.    In addition to what he said, I might isolate the wiring from the ECU to the injector and ohm test each one independently- if you haven't already done that (not sure what you already did to check the wiring).

Check the resistance across the injector connector. They have to draw less than one amp, or the ECU will shut down the quaddriver to that injector. They may fire with 12V across them, but the semi conductor has load limits that cannot be exceeded. This kind of fault is usually due to alcohol dissolving the insulation on the solenoid coil and thereby lowering resistance.

Hi everyone.A new member and glad to be on board.Actually registered a couple of weeks ago and been touring this site to figure stuff out.Not much of a computer nerd and not a lot of time to spend on this thing.Have visited a lot of different forums but have never been a member.Anyhow,a little about myself.Bought my first bike when I was 12.Saved my paper route money and got a 1973 kawi G3TR and have not been without a bike since whether on or off road. Kinda giving away my age there...lol .I am currently the proud owner of an 01 1500 Drifter and love it.Bought it in 03 with 3k on it and we have been joined at the hip since.Love the torque and the power, including the style. At only 5ft 6 and 150lbs it hauls me around like im not even there.Moving on...Born in Cape Breton N.S..Spent most of my life in Ontario where I bought my Drifter. For the love I became a licenced mechanic (old school) and owned my own shop for 12 years.Been through many bikes.I have recently moved back to gods country and plan to stay till the end and yes i brought my Drifter with me.Attacted at the hip...ya know.Im now having a problem.Injector #2 is not delivering fuel.Good spark and compression on both cylinders.Have bench tested injectors (both good).Gone through all wiring (ok).Switched injectors front to back..same problem.Checked ECU and am getting a code #42.ECU is shutting down injector #2.Dont know why or how this happend.Getting 12 volts to the injectors, cleaned throttle body but to no avail.I hope there is something that im missing here and reaching out for any suggestions. If i need to replace the ECU (ouch!) i will.Missing the beautiful roads out here. Thanks for reading and looking forward to any replies. Be safe..Littleman.P.S. I read everyone likes pics so i will try to send some.Over and Out..
