I'd bet the fan hasn't worked for some time.   Have you heard it run?   Like Pete said, shouldn't need it much going down the road. Mine doesn't come on very often-- of course I'd guess it's hotter where you are.    Perhaps you had 2 problems - fan switch that hadn't been running, and then the stat stuck.

Glad you're finding them, though, and hope you get it going soon.

No Worries

Good info Mr. Pete. Thank You! Found the thermostat was stuck..causing me another problem! I'll get one from Kaw Tuesday. Got the 2 radiator switches yesterday. I plan on flushing the system also. I hope that all this stuff works! This is my first water cooled motorcycle! Respects. Magoo.

Pete

The fan not coming on should only be a problem if you have been stuck in traffic for a long period. If you were continually moving before your bike over heated then there is likely to be another problem. The candidates would be a coolant leak, water pump or thermostat. If you checked for a coolant leek at the time, as I'm sure you would have, then check the thermostat before you put everything back together.

Ride safe, live long and prosper.

Pilgrim: Will flush out the cooling system and change antifreeze once the switches arrive! Thanks. Magoo.

Cool...may as well change your antifteeze if you havent done so lately.
Good job Troll.  Good savings on those parts man.

Yes Sir Mr. Troll...it was that Fan Switch on the bottom of the Raidator...Kaw wants $169.00 for a Fan Switch & Warning Switch!
Found them both on line New for $37. Hot wired the fan switch to a toggo switch until the new part arrive! Thank You TROLL! Respects. Magoo.

Fan switch is a 2 wire brass unit in the lower radiator tank. One wire is hot all the time. The other wire runs to the fan. The fan is constantly grounded. When the threshold temp is reached, the switch bridges the power circuit to the fan.

Have not been going too far on the Old Drifter..into town & back(about 20 miles) and it seems to run fine..but..the other day went out and around 83 miles away from home the bike started to go slower..downshifted did not help..pulled off the road and the motor   was hotter than a pistol..let it cool down for 1/2 hour..then was able to go another mile or so to my destination. Lost my Headlights
found that was a fuse..but found the fan was not working to cool the engine. Trailered it home the next day. Pulled the fuel tank..drained the radiator..pulled off the fan and ran 2 jumpers to see if it spins..with the hot wire test the fan operated..checked all my wires..put everything back together..Still Do Not have a Fan! Any/all ideas will help...I'm Stuck! Thanks.Magoo.
