Overflow hose down near the oil sight glass?

Yeah probably no big deal. I did look it up though after cuz I got curious and apparently it's not back pressure but that hose tees from both the crankcase and the clean side of the airbox, so that means however remotely there's a possibility that if it's an open-ended hose it could suck in dust or other particulates from the outside atmosphere into the carb. And that's why the OEMs cap It off, in the case of our Drifters with a milk jug thingy :-)

Hmm, don't remember for certain - but I think the hose from the crankcase was originally just open to atmospheric pressure a the air filter -- It's been several years since I've taken mine off, and don't see that's it's given me any problems.

Huh, I think it was on the forum for my other bike somebody was saying just having an open hose is a bad idea because that little milk bottle thingy (which is just a cap on the end of the hose on my other bike) provides a little bit of back pressure that the crankcase needs or something like that.

I got rid of all the extra tubing and milk bottle and junk, now just run a hose from the crank breather to the ground

Now that you mention it, when I put in the K&N filter and mistakenly oiled it (it was pre-oiled) there may have been some oil drainage through that hose, but I was more concerned at that time with getting the air filtration right and wasn't paying much attention to other stuff.

I am sure that it is off the back of the filter housing near the bottom, I have both mine off right now and so can not say 100% sure, but I am thinking so. I have never seen any oil coming out of it, but have seen oil collected in the location of the opening in the housing, and wondered about it. Same as the milk bottle.....lol......never seen one full but after a summer I have seen one about half full.....

Yeah, this is the hose I mean. I was thinking it's the one that goes between the jugs from the air filter housing. I'm pretty sure (before I wiped up the fluid on the floor) that it wasn't gas but oil, so it's reassuring what you're saying above, that it's not a leaking gasket or something serious. BTW, just came off a 120 mile ride this afternoon and there's no sign of anything coming out that overflow hose... Thanks.

GB I think he is talking about the hose that comes from the back of the filter housing and passes through between the jugs and then through the area behind the drive sprocket and hangs down along the oil sight level.......now someone has fixed that so the oil that drips from there went on to their chain. I think that is just a drain for the oil that blows past and comes into the air filter housing......

Are you talking about the "milk bottle" up front by the radiator, down by the starter? If so, that is basically the container for any oil to accumulate from the crank-case vent system. The stock system is messy - if I remember it makes a mess through the air cleaner system etc. A lot of people remove all that stuff and just put a hose to the ground.

I know I can look this up in the manual or something but can one of you gurus tell me what that overflow hose is for? The only reason I ask is because For the First Time I noticed it because the first time there was some oil on my garage floor from it after about a one-hour ride. Actually I wiped it up so quickly I wasn't even able to confirm that it is oil and not something else. Pretty stupid I know and also stupid that I am not able to really Trace where it comes from on the engine. But anyway that's why I have you guys the experts who inform me, thanks for your help.
