Solo seat driver backrest

OR I have decided to go another route on the transformation of Pearl and so I do have a spring seat for sale. It is not a plug and play mounting it needs some mods......

that's a good point, Seedman, because I don't see a picture of the bottom mounting points of these seats just that you have to take his word that it will mount without any modification.

I have yet to see any of the springer solo seats sold on ebay or anywhere else that are really "plug and play". Everyone that I have researched where you can actually see a picture of the bottom of the pan for the mounting points will not mount without some modification....

I have mounted mine with a flat steel plate that the springs are mounted on. The plate is then mounted to the cross-member under the seat area. The difficulty with mounting to the cross-member is that you have to remove the electronics to tighten down any nuts that you attach to the bolts that go through it. I solved this issue by drilling out the holes and putting in #6 nutserts (threaded rivets). Now I can detach the entire seat and plate in about 5 minutes with just 3 bolts - two on the cross-member and one on the tank mount. Ratman has said that he is looking at doing his the same way, although now I think he is going a different route...

the only issue I found was that I needed spacers between the saddlebag mounts and the frame (if not using the seat brackets) to keep the saddlebag mounts from hitting the rear bumper when it moves up and down. I either leave the seat brackets on or use a couple of blocks of UHMW that I have drilled out for this purpose.....

If you're correct, I don't think I want to trust a person who writes this on their website: "For DRIFTER 800 - NO modifications are needed. The seat is a Plug & play Installation."

As far as I remember, there must be someone over this Forum who bought one from Singh and he said that it's not really a bolt-on seat, because it needs some little mods to fit an 800...

I do believe you're in luck.... I think our own OR Seedman is selling various racks and backrests. I have a Corbin on my 1500 and had a Corbin for the 800 but sold it. They are really nice, but like you said expensive. If you can find them used, they are about half of new.

So I know some of you have like a Corbin solo seat that has a driver backrest, how much did you have to give for that thing? The prices I'm seeing seem out of this world $500 plus dollars. So unless there's something a little more reasonable out there, I'm thinking about taking on a winter project of adapting a generic driver backrest and building my own brackets but boy does it look like a lot of work. has anybody ever done it? I don't want to reinvent the wheel if it's already been done and someone could give me a few pointers or even better some specs. Thanks for any help you can give
