you would not believe this....it's plasti-dip....with a glossifier....if I decide to keep it myself, I will paint it permanently with a very similar color scheme...

I also added the front fender rail I bought on ebay a few months ago....had it chromed and mounted it today...looks good with the rest of the chrome...

Damn man, you got fine taste in two-tone and seat colour.  ;)

2 horns, 2 wires each. You can split the wires you have (neg split to neg, Pos splits to pos). Here is the Australian schematic (we have hardwired low beam, that is the only difference I know of).  :)

So...here is a progress report on the 1500..

I got the ignition and the choke put back in the correct location.  All electrical has been fixed and everything comes on correctly so far...but...I am putting back the stock horn and I only have two connecting wires for the horn hanging down in the front, but I have two horns that take 2 wires each...so my questions is this:  am I missing a set of connecting wires or should I only have one horn mounted?  Or...do I run jumpers from one horn to the other?  Just to be clear...I picked up a Vulcan 1500 horn set with mounting bracket online....not specific to a Drifter 1500, but just a Vulcan 1500....I have been unable to determine from the parts diagrams whether or not I should a second set of connecting wires.....but it looks like there suppose to be two horns...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

On another note...the bike came with a mint condition chrome solo seat rail....I am changing out the seat to tan aftermarket classic seat with fringe and conches...the seat rail does not look very good with the new seat (it sits too far back from the seat and all the mounts show), so I am thinking about selling it...I would rather offer it to forum members first before listing it on ebay....so, if interested, pm me with possible offers...I will post a couple of pictures tomorrow as it is out at my shop right now....here is are a couple of pics on the bike as I bought it

hey...I'll just do everything in reverse....LOL

Seriously, though, I am waiting on some parts and then things start getting put back on.  I am going to look at some test colors for the paint, but I did clean up the fenders and tank so that they look pretty good right now.  I removed the chrome pinstripes that were used to transition between the colors and discovered that real painted pinstripes were underneath.  they seem to be really rough, so after cleaning the left over glue off, I used a 2000 grit wet-block and sanded them all down....now they don't look half bad...so I may wait on painting until next year..

thanks to all for the help.  the pics are perfect.  New choke cable is on the way, along with a few other items....

I am also having the seat re-done in tan...the old cover was split in the rear flap where it hangs up on the seat rail and the saddlebag mounts.  I am have the new cover made with shorter flaps that I will add some tan leather trim to.  That should be done today...then I will look into tan saddlebags....I am now thinking about a dark red color to go with the tan seat and bags....

on another note...does anyone have experience with a Dynatech power module....there is one on this bike, now, but one of the wires to the air intake unit is broken.  They used a wire tap to splice into the wiring and actually cut the wire....I will repair it and re-connect the controller wire as well, but I have no experience with this brand....

thanks again..

Here are some pictures of the ignition however, my camera just does not do closeups well. The ignition is fastened on to a tab that is welded on to the frame. I don't know if this will help but good luck.

The ignition/ choke are mounted with what looks like a threaded stud with a locking nut.

yeah...that's the issue with the ones on there now...they are too long and raise the seat off of the cross bar about 3/4 of an inch...makes the seat flex downward in the middle...also, they are not at the correct angle....thanks for the info..

The template is in the Links/Mods section.

I used 3 X 50 mm aluminum strip, 1/8 X 2", with a hacksaw,file, hammer, bench vice and cordless drill.

They only stop the seat from falling off (or being pinched). The weight is taken by the crossbar(double seat) or frame behind battery (solo). No need for anything complex/sturdy.

ok...cap is ordered and I will need to see about having some new brackets made properly....

You have to replace the bevel gear cap, it's a one use only part. The seat brackets are not serviced. There are some diagrams with measurements on this web site.

So...as some of you know, I picked up a 2001 1500 to go with my 800.  It had a blown bevel gear bearing and had not been very well taken care of by the previous owner....I have done the bearing and re-mounted the engine, so now I have some questions (I have been looking for answers in the manual and in diagrams....can't find what I am looking for there).

I need info on the following:

1.  how to mount the ignition switch and choke cable in the original location (PO moved to same location as an 800...but was very poorly mounted and moved around a lot)
2.  is there an 'O" ring that goes on the bevel gear housing cap?  the cap is very loose....after cleaning all the gunk off of it, it won't stay in....just falls right out.  there is a recess in the housing that looks like it would be for an O ring, but I can't find one in any parts diagrams....
3.  Seat mounting brackets.. are they available or do they only come with a new seat?  The PO must have lost the originals, because he made some out of angled hinges (cut the hinge in half and bent the ends to mount them to the seat...they are not the correct length..  I can't find them in any parts diagrams except on the seat....no separate part number..

I also have to replace the gas cap (PO butchered the original one trying to attach a fancy chrome cover....it is all hacked up and almost half is missing...) the rear brake switch and the fuel sending unit...the gauge is not working....

Once I get all the little things taken care of, I am going to get started on the paint....I will probably brush and roll the frame, since the bike is almost completely stripped down right now..when done, I will post before and after pics...

thanks in advance for any help provided....
