yes it was.....great highway cruiser and good on the twisty backroads, too.  I really missed that bike after is was totaled.

I am 73 years old and have been riding since I was 14. In that time, I've dropped bikes, ridden road race bikes into hay bales, completely bent motocross bikes and been hit 3 times by idiots in cars. Luckily, pretty much all that happened when I was young and indestructible. Now I am old and neither.

I bought a 1999 1500 Drifter when they first came out, rode it for 6 years then foolishly sold it. I've had other bikes off and on since then, but 2 Summers ago, I found a mint 1999 1500 for private sale and snatched it up for too much money. It had 9600 km on it when I bought it. While I don't ride any where near the distances that I did when I was younger, I don't regret buying "daisy".

As others here have advised, take things slow but get out and ride. I would bet that you will soon overcome any anxiety and find the joy again. This is all about FUN, so have some.

A little fear is a good thing, especially as we age. Knowing our limitations is always important but especially so when riding. I have to do a bit more prep work and I pay more attention to my mental and physical situation before I ride. I have plenty of time nowadays so I never push myself too far.

I know how you feel....I stopped riding back in 2000 after going down on my Pacific Coast in Phoenix.  An older lady pulled out of a parking lot right in front of me and I t-boned her in the driver's side door at about 40 mph.  Bike was totaled and I was banged up but luckily no broken bones (had a helmet on, too)  Didn't ride again for over 15 years when I finally got the urge (and courage) again and found a 2001 Drifter 800 with 3400 miles on it.  I took my time getting my riding legs back, but now I ride a 1500 (with a 1600 classic motor), full batwing and lots of extras.  Found my son-in-law a 2008 Mean Streak with a blown motor for $1,000, dropped a new used engine in it for $1200 last November.  Just got done rebuilding 2 Yamaha V-star 650 Classics that I bought both for $1500.  Going to sell one and gave one to my son....so now I'll have my own little riding group.  I'm now 60 and I regret the years I didn't ride because of the fear I had from the accident...but I realized that it has also made me a more cautious rider....Just take your time getting used to being on a bike again....the 1500 is easy to handle for a large cc bike, so you shouldn't have any problems....and welcome to the Drifter family

Bought my bike 2 years ago back in February 2021. Drove 800km to pick her up sight unseen because the Drifter was and still is my dream bike. On the way back, she tipped over in the trailer when I slipped on ice and cracked her beautiful front fender. I know that I paid more than a 1999 Drifter 1500 may be worth, but I wanted it. The funny thing here is that I have yet to take her out for a ride.

About 7 years ago, I dropped my Victory and got hurt ( I'm 64 now and don't bounce as well as I used to ). My thinking is that because it's my dream bike that I'll overcome my concerns and once again enjoy riding and on a Drifter to boot. She came with the two up seat, leather bags and a windscreen but I removed all of that and keep her as simple and beautiful as possible. Later this month, I'm going to plate and insure her and hope to God in heaven that I didn't make a mistake.
