LOL on Pilgrim's portrait...   That's funny.

Thanks Hoggy - I think that's the next step.  I downloaded another program, and it was able to get pics 114 to 155.  Unfortunately, if I had to pic, there were others I'd probably rather have...  but that's something...

So next I'll try to clean the contacts, then I think it's re-format time...

I tried that and it says the card doesn't have a file format system so needs to be formatted.   But, I hate to format, knowing that generally that completely erases files.   However, the Recuva is "supposed" to recover files after a card has been erased or formatted, so should I go ahead and format??   I hate to make it worse, if that is possible.

Well, maybe the first thing you could try is to clean the contacts of the memory card with a pencil eraser. This might be a simple fix if the contacts are dirty.

As for formatting the card this is what Recuva has to say:

".... when you format a drive (especially if you use the Quick Format option), Windows erases the hidden index but does not overwrite the existing files until you start saving new data to it. Recuva can still scan the drive's contents to find your files."

I've only ever used Recuva to recover deleted files but have not had to format the card to do it.
Sorry, not very reassuring but that's the best I can tell you.

Try this:http://www.piriform.com/recuva

It's been around for a while and gets good reviews. And there is a free version you can download.

So I get home from the Wisconsin Drifter get-together, and I wanted to look at my pictures I took on my camera.  Seems my SD card has taken a most in-opportune time (is there a good time??) to check out.  No pictures.   "card must be formatted to use" message.....   Tried 2 different computers, and back in the camera - no difference.

I had a whole bunch of pics on that card, so it's kind of a big loss.

So, has anybody had any luck, with down-loadable software, or a mail-in service, or whatever- to restore lost photo files in a case like this???   I see there are programs like Stellar available....
