Solo Seats

Actually, the Corbin seats will fit all years, but you have to modify the front washer plate for the "newer" models. I had to grind down the washer plate (flatten one surface) to get it to fit under the front riveted bar on the Corbin (genuine) seat. Get that seated then attach to the rear brackets. The first few times removing/replacing the seat was difficult but it goes on without a hitch now... 14 years later!! I have a 2002 and bought the seat from Corbin in 2002.

Solo Seats ARE NOT interchangeable... without some modifying and then maybe not even.  DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE PURCHASING.

For whatever reason, manufacturers like Corbin made design changes that made some seats not work.  I recently got a seat, that I had to send back, that was off a 2000 Drifter 1500 and would not work on my 2002.  Some were saying to extend the bolt or bend the washer plate... neither would work since the washer plate would not slide under the bar/plate riveted to the seat...

Before trading any seat, I STRONGLY suggest getting pictures of the front where it mounts... both on the seat and their bike, as well as multiple pictures showing the condition... so you know exactly what you are getting.

The older I get the less patience I have 

I got tired of changing the brackets over between the solo and the dual seats, so I made my own out of a strip of aluminium strap -
50mm x 3mm (2" x 1/8") - $ 3 from the local hardware store in 1 metre lengths.

Took about an hour to make both using a hacksaw, bastard file , hammer and bench vice, and squirt of rattle can black.

Just use the original as the template. They just centre the seat - the weight is taken thru the pan.

Any Drifter 1500 seat will fit any Drifter 1500, regardless of year, provided you have the two little metal ears to bolt to (you can move them from seat to seat).  Drifter 800 seats are the same......800 to 800 Drifter.  Drifter 800 seats and Drifter 1500 seats are different, and not interchangeable.  Nomad and Classic seats are different, though a few have adapted them to fit Drifters, but it's not a straight bolt up deal.

Can anyone tell me if solo seats are interchangeable between different VN1500s, or different production years?  In other words will a Drifter solo seat made for a 05' fit my 99', or will a solo seat made for a Classic or Nomad from 03' fit my 99'?
