Steps to Change-

My Drifter Therm. Switch came in and simple plug and play. Now fan comes on on hot days at red lights.  This is a Simple Fix.  Takes 15 min tops.....Comes with o-ring installed so drain fluid with small drain bolt on middle end and to the right of oil pan drain bolt.  Remove radiator cap. by removing lower screw of Speedo housing on tank, leave the top two screws  alone, remove speedo cable from right side front wheel, place towel on right side of gas tank and pull off Speedo housing and place on towel.  Then remove radiator cap. After drained, re-install small drain bolt (it has a very small washer on it , don't loose it). Disconnect wire connector which is 5 inches away, just follow switch wires.  Remove switch, install new switch do not over tighten just snug.  Connect wire connectors.
Top off 50/50 Green fluid close to top, leave a inch from top.  Run bike for 3 to 5 minutes for air bubbles, squeeze lower and upper rad. hoses and slightly rev a little.  No more air bubbles.  Top off fluid to bottom of rad. neck.  If to much use a clean towel and absorb some.  Place cap on, sped cable to front wheel and Speedo housing.  All set.

Like Troll said if finding this switch becomes hard, a person could prob buy a 800 Classic or similar Therm. Switch and take old Therm. Switch off Drifter and USE THE OLD SWITCH connector and wires to change out end connector from new Switch , so it connects to bikes existing plug and use marine shrink tubes to seal wire splicing.

OR, you could modify the electrical connectors.....which is what I would do if it were mine...

That's what I thought.  I asked the Dealer parts guy about buying a 800 Classic temp switch with the electrical connector for it to cut off my connector and splice the classic into.  He did not know if it would work because his thought was  there had to be a reason why Kaw. went through the trouble to use that switch and connector for the Drifter and was not used on any other bike which is more common to happen that it would fit many applications.  He then said maybe that switch kicks on at a certain temperature or something to do with air flow from the front curved Drifter fender.

IDK but agree with Troll it probably would work.  All it is doing is turning the fan on when it gets hot enough and any Switch Thermostat should do the same.

That or a redneck way is to run a toggle switch to manually turn on/off fan.......

FYI and another rare hard to find part made only for the Drifter 800 and not used on any other model.  Just what we need. >:(

I recently ordered Kawasaki part #27010-1403 Thermostat Switch that turns on the 800 fan when driving in hot summer weather and of course keeps the 800 from over heating.  After placing my order with Partszilla online it showed the history the next day that it is on backorder until August.  I am thinking August-really.  I call them and they said it was a national back-order by Kawasaki and not in stock from anyone.  They said my local dealer might have one on the shelf.  I called local and they do not and said that it is a odd part not shared with other bikes because the electrical connector is unique and only fits the Drifter 800.  I then asked how long is a national back-order could be and they said sometimes it months until they have enough paid pre-orders to make a batch.  I then asked if their computer ties into other dealer computers to see if another dealer might have the part.  No theirs didn't.

So I started calling different dealers in Illinois before I start calling dealers in other states for one that would have it in stock.  Luckily the forth call found the only one they had and will have it UPS tomorrow.  Only paid for ground but less then 3 hours away it's coming next day.

Long story short if you need a part on national backorder and Ebay and Amazon does not have it either then call your local to far away Kawasaki dealers to find one that may have the part sitting on their shelf.

That and if you need one for down the road, or want a back-up just in case hard to find part, then order one now and wait months for it.
