I pulled it cause I got the frame powder coated.  I bought the bike relatively cheap for OZ standards but it needed some major tlc.  I can now also give the motor block a sturdy black paint once over.
The bike is now +/- 17 years so I stripped the steering bearing seat and similar for the swing arm bearing.

Instead of ripping/stripping the air tunnel I took off the throttle body and gave it a great clean up and replaced the intake seals.  While at it I am rerouting ignition an choke cable to their new location and so on and so on lol

Since the bike was extremely low mileage I figured - great - another project.

Re the valve covers - Maybe the front one but for the rear there isn't enough space left to pull upwards and then slide out sideways.

RockinRollin

Just curious, but why did Mak pull the engine? Is it not riding season in Oz? Does anyone know if you can remove the head covers without pulling the engine?

Hey! That looks like one of the many "custom brat/bagger/cafe/tracker/scrambler bike" on Craig's List.
Usually they state they are 95% completed and just needs reassembly to be worth $20k!
Listed for the give-away price of only $5k   :o

rawbz36: your lack of skill is only limited by your lack of imagination and willingness to venture to the unknown.

With the help of a few members, and a lot of faith in them I have stripped my bike down to the engine and frame. If you can follow instructions then go for it these guys will lead you through all your trials and tribulations.......one or 2 will lead you down the garden path if they get a chance.......lol.......

Ahh I'm still a prospect , but it's ok I know it will change , I just got my drifter out , gonna get some bug guts on her , just to get her cleaned back up 😎 it's too nice here in ohio

Welcome to the forum, NewD.  I see you're from Springfield - only about an hour from me.  A buddy and I went the the Springfield Swap Meet last Sunday - were you there??   It should have been advertised as a "Harley Only" swap -- there still wouldn't have been fewer non-HD parts if it was.....   :(
No Worries

I will be putting a small baffle back in them just to make a little backpressure.

My wifes 99 was missing the 'longshot" portion when I got the bike.   So I improvised  I went into my stash pile and found Harley Bagger takeoffs.  Took out the baffles, flipped one and bolted them together. [Excuse the crappy weld,,a nut and bolt was cleaner and neater]
Produced a deep deep nice rumble. Looks good too.

I bought a set of complete longshots for my Drifter..sounds good, but not as deep and powerful as my wifes...
So off to the stash pile I go again.
