Man, I hate to discourage anyone in their search for parts, but based on my experience, the Fire & Steel solo Luggage Rack (now discontinued), in either black or chrome is as scarce as hen's teeth. I know this because, about a year or so ago, I spent an intensive two months searching for one online. I was about to give up when a black one (new) popped up on eBay. I got into a bidding war with one other buyer. I won the auction, but I paid dearly ($$$) for that rack, and it wasn't even the chrome one I was hoping for. Further, the search for the mounting struts was almost as daunting, but I did manage to find a pair of chrome ones; and again, I paid out the culo for it. All I can suggest is keep looking. Forget the Kaw dealers; their shelves are empty and some will give you a song and dance, pledging to order one for you. Your best best is eBay. Scan it DAILY. One of our fellow Drifter maniacs is bound to cough one up sooner or later!

I am wanting a backrest and luggage rack just like what you have, would prefer chrome but will take black.  Any idea where I can purchase a similar backrest and rack?

I got my Drifter 1500 rack from WOMPUS RACKS. It is awesome, although the holes were drilled a smidgen off, and the rack was 1/4 inch wider when all was said and done, and I had to put some spacers in. The support at WOMPUS was great. They offered to send me a new rack for free when I had trouble...but an hour in my garage and I had tweaked it to fit perfectly.

Here is the rack: (the style, that is. I think this photo came from a different model, but the STYLE is the same. They also offer a SOLID PLATE rack like this instead of the 'bars')

Oh, and I wanted to add that what I was looking for was something that bolts to the FRAME and does NOT touch that back fender. I am not drilling holes in the fender, or using it for luggage. I wanted something that could hold whatever I put on it, whether it is 10lbs or 100lbs.

This rack can hold anything that the frame can take. I have stood on top of it and I am 280lbs.

Sorry...I named this as one of Scootworks when I first posted...I was ...confused...lol. Scoots would not fit. The WOMPUS? It is perfect.

Todd...........I answered your question in the "sale" ad for my bike.  The luggage rack can be any one that comes close to being the same width as the frame at that point.  Then take some 3/16th steel and make adapter plates to bolt to the frame and the rack that you buy.  Leave enough room to attach a hoop for the backrest.  I used 1/2" round stock and the pad is off a late model Nomad 1600 or V2K.  The whole thing (minus the luggage rack which I already had) cost about $60.  The main cost was the backrest pad which I got off e-Bay for $39.  I also have a similar arrangement on my 05 Classic.

Seminole Power Sports used to be a good source for Drifter items. They are in Sanborne Fla.

I bought a black solo rack,saddlebag hangers,lightbar, & engine bar from them.

I have a research/parts listing... a list for parts I'm looking to buy for others or to resell. Since I do this all the time I run across things on occasion. Can anyone help me find a luggage rack for a 1500 solo setup?  I'm feeling inept, since I can't find one anywhere...or even mention of one, yet I've seen them.  Go figure.
