Those are sweet! So looks from here like you have to have the baffles in the actual header pipes? – right about where your foot pegs are, And then the fishtail pipes attach there. And yes those kind of baffles do need some extra wrap– You can buy it on eBay for like $15, and you want to get the stuff that's only a quarter of an inch thick, that way you can put as many wraps as you need on there. Good luck and ride safe!

Well upon closer inspection I noticed that the short header is too short to accept a baffle, so that's why you're thinking of putting the baffles in the exhaust pipes (rather than the header pipes) facing backwards. One issue that might cause is if you add wrap to the outside of your baffles to quiet things a bit more (and get more back pressure), you'll have to safety wire the exhaust wrap so that it doesn't blow out the ends of your pipes from exhaust pressure.

I was planning to get a Dyno-jet kit. I figured that a airbox mod and pipes would require a richer mix.

Yep, you got it – that's the right move. And there are some YouTube's, if you're like me, and want to see it done first.

I think if you have the correct baffles for your pipes they should only go in small end first. By the way when it came to quieting my pipes down – because they were open shotguns when I got my bike – I had to actually wrap my baffles with exhaust wrap, because the baffles alone weren't enough, and they didn't have enough back pressure either.  And when all was said and done with the exhaust, I still had to rejet my carburetor.

I'll take a photo when I go to the shop in a little while. Yes, these have the hole for bolting to the inside of the pipe. I was concerned about the placement of the baffle in the pipes and the acoustics and exhaust flow.  Maybe the direction through the baffle and the location in the length of the pipe don't matter that much. I picked-up a set of headers with fishtail straight pipes. I ordered a couple of 8" baffles for them. Any advise on installing them? Does the flange on the baffle go towards the engine or away from it in the pipe? Thanks again, Mike

Mike, it is hard to give advice without seeing these, but generally the flange on the baffles is what keeps them from going too far into the pipes. In other words, the larger diameter on the baffle should be a snug fit to the ID of your pipes, and that's why it's the last thing to slip into the pipes. Most baffles have a tapped hole on that diameter, which is where you have to drill a hole into your pipe (assuming there isn't already one that lines up) and run a screw through it to hold the baffle in.

Since you have fishtails that also attach to the end of your pipes, you're going to have to figure out how that all works – it's possible the same screw that holds on the fishtails could hold the baffles in as well.
