Spare gas tank saddlebag

There is a lot of area's in Northern Ontario that are last fuel for 200 to 300 kms, and even if you fuel up there I can not make it to the next fuel point. Then there is a lot of places to ride were if you miss a fuel point or take a different route you could run short, so really nice to carry enough to make the next place, and like I said I have found others stranded because they do not know the area.

Wow, you do have a long ways between stops.  Here, they are usually only 125 - 186 miles...

lol no finance but my boss (err wife) didn't find out for a while re some costs. Sometimes not saying anything CAN prolong life expectancy hahahahahaha
your photo shows an 800's - I am not much across them but if you go onto VDog UK there are a few 800 wizards, one especially - his name is Brit Drifter - he is a real 800 genie ...!

With the 1500 being an FI system with fuel pump , cutting the tank isn't as simple as cutting off a even straight slice and filling it in again.  The cut is in a different spot on top of the tank than the bottom cut so as to avoid the fuel pump...
I inserted 2 inch either sides, just be careful of any screens and fairings - if too wide you kink/scrape the tank when turning all the way!

I did get my tank enlarged for travelling in France where not all petrol stations are open over the weekend or after hours, especially in the country side.
I pack now 27ltr - gets you a decent distance - only thing is because the tank is wider the fuel level reading doesn't change for fuel gauge float so the reserve light comes on comparatively early - although reserve is something like 5-7ltrs lol - which gets me around 120km / 80miles
In total I get around 450km's / 300 miles without running dry.
Anyway - that's all I have to say about that

This spring I'll try a test on my bike and let it hit reserve, then use both bottles and go till I hit reserve again and see what I get distance wise.

I was hoping more people planned on doing this, perhaps best performed groups wise on the same day, and some-one could provide me a good estimate and an outcome where we can really count on. Not that there aren't enough gas stations in The Netherlands, or that I tend to forget taking in fuel, but 1 liter on every 16 km's is sort of questionable. It may well be, I'll benefit most from pouring out from bottles when there doesn't seem to be much gas left in the tank.

But twice I have used them they were good to have, once on a group ride here and someone forgot to fuel up. Then on a local ride met a fella who was not a local and he had mistaken his distance to the next fuel station and it was closed. He took one bottle to get to the next service center.

Will this be a permanent mount or is it on and off? Waiting to see how the finished product comes out and now JagLite has new ideas to tinker with......

itll just be a bolt on/off kinda thing. I want to have saddlebags when cruising around town.

I was worried about that too. I'm thinking about making a brace that welds onto the passenger peg bracket, maybe that will give it a bit more sturdiness?

be aware of the weight. Gasoline weighs about 7 lbs. per gallon....

Hello everybody. Im been around for a while on the forum creeping on subjects for my 99' drifter. Wanted to let you guys know that im going to attempt to mount a 10l Jerry Can on my left saddlebag mount. I love when you lay it sideways it kind of follows the lines of the bike. Wish me luck, guys!
