rectifier chrome trim

I rerouted and put it on the front... but that's on the 1500. I don't know if the 800 is the same.

Hey Chief ,I was looking at moving my rectifier to another spot. Its a multi wire setup, did you cut and extend the harness ? Its about 10'' long so theres not a lot of places to put it.

Thanks Chief, I think I'll move it to a better spot . Shows how educational reading the posts can be. The manual shows how to replace a part but riders can tell you what "may" happen.

I wouldn't think overheating of the rectifier would have anything to do with the stator failure. I think it is more likely overheating would cause the rectifier to fail prematurely.

Chief,I had an issue in the fall when my stator went bad , do you think covering up the rectifier with that bag could have been related??

Might be enough... don't know. This is a solid state device and heat can kill it prematurely. So I'd likely consider moving it, or at least monitor the temp.

I never thought much about the air flow, but I made a bracket to mount the bag on and its about 1 1/2'' out from the rectifier so maybe thats enough air flow when your moving.

On the 1500 all I needed was to reroute it. I assume its the same on the 800.

i thought it needed air flow.  did you have to add wire or just rerouted it ?

I moved the box to the front of the bike and have a chrome tool box in its spot.

You want to ensure there is air flow over the rectifier fins to keep it cool. Believe me you don't want that thing to fail... it WILL shut you down and strand you on the side of the road! I had a two day "adventure" in the middle of no place as a result of a bad rectifier on a harley.

I found a leather bag at a resale store for a few bucks, added a few chrome spots and mounted it over the rectifier. Original Indians always had a tool bag mounted somewhere and that area was a common place.

It's the chrome trim piece that fills the gaps between the rectifier and frame.

Would like to know if the chrome rectifier trim (K53020-161) for a vulcan 800 A/B will fit a Drifter 800.
