Vibration at 60mph

On board with Troll on this one,
I used to have a buzzing noise, and it was driving me crazy trying to find it.....was the windscreen at certain RPM's and once I rubber mounted it, gone and never back since......
Had a funny whoo whoo sound at a certain speed, added Counterbalance beads, sound was gone.
Used to get numb hands and was told this was due to vibration in the bars, so got ISO grips and added gripe end weights, fantastic difference.
Was getting a clicking noise and feeling in the rear, it was some crud in the chain links, a good washing of the chain and lube issues cleared right up.
So sometimes you need to think out side the box.......

Vibration is entirely too broad a term for any meaningful diagnosis. Suspension? engine" high frequency? low frequency? My 1500 was a little buzzy at higher rpm, until I loosened all the motor mounts, AND brackets that attach to the frame, and ran the engine for a few minutes, then retightened them to specs...Sometimes I get a little "funny" feedback from the tires, but that changes with road surface....

I've got my 800 since 1999 and no vibration at all.
Maybe it's just a matter of windshield height.
I mean: sometimes, while ridin' fast, I tried to raise my body up from the bike until my face is off the windshield top; man, such a huge difference! Lots of "vibrations" upon my face...

I love my swingin' bike!

Have you checked your wheel weights? You may have lost them and the wheel is unbalanced. I know it may not seem like much, but if its uneven you'll get vibration. Very well could be that. Super cheap and easy fix. ( :

22k miles; stock sprockets; factory windscreen; no vibration.

My 2004 800 vibrates like a Singer sewing machine. I was told this was "normal" for chain bikes. I will be watching this topic closely-

Last summer I took Driftin' Girl's '04 8000 out for a run

perhaps "L"'s 8000 is just has much more torque then your little 800,

I went for a ride this morning and nope nothing no vibration. So I am stumped about this.

I had some buffeting on my 1500 with a windscreen, but I made some lowers and that cured it.

Does your vibration get worse as the speed goes up?

gdrudd13

I'm going with wind buffeting. I recently had to pick up my 800 from the shop after getting a tube replaced and when I dropped it off I had to bring it in my trailer, but I rode it home. To fit in my trailer I had to take the windshield off. Well, I forgot it when I went to pick it up, and had to ride back at 75 mph with no windshield (it was horrible, I don't know how people do long trips that). There was a decent amount of buffeting going on though.

I see further testing is required..lol
I'll determine the type of vibration, and with and with out the windscreens. 04 is lowered, mine not.

Thanks for the comments and I'll get back when the rain stops..and I might even try a different brain bucket..

FYI I am running a windscreen and no vibration due to it.

I'm inclined to agree with Ratman on this - these are known for windshield helmet-buffeting but not "vibration".  Do you actually feel this in the seat or handlebars, or just your head??

No Worries

2beers

Neither of our 800's, both 2000's, have vibration issues at any speed.  We've had both stock and modified sprockets, no problem with either setup.  My 800 is lowered, 2beers' has stock height.  We haven't run the windshields on the bikes at all, so can't say if that would be a cause.  Hope you figure this one out!

We've always been car crazy.  We've always been bike crazy.  Most people agree we're just plain crazy.

I am running stock gearing and do not experience this vibration. Do you have the same wind-screens on both bikes. Just a guess that it may be wind buffeting. Have you ridden them without the screens?

MikeakaFred

Mr Ratman

The vibration is the kind that vibrates your glasses to the point of getting blurry vision from 60mph and up.....
Both bikes have new tires both different brands and were installed and balanced by two different places. Driftin'Girl has 3,100 miles on hers and mine has less than 8000 miles...

So what gives?  Am I the only one?  What have others done for a solution ??

Thanks

Wait a moment, need to read this again, you actually got out for a ride, on your bike this year. Did the snow finally melt in the east coast?

Ok I have no vibration at any speed on my 800. Last weekend I spent 5 hours on Hiway 69 up from Perry Sound to Sudbury, then down 17 to home. and at 120 kms it as really nice, and comfy, I have however done the sprocket swap and have a 18/38 set up. This mad a huge difference in my riding.
What kind of vibration are you getting?

Last summer I took Driftin' Girl's '04 8000 out for a run . There seemed to be a slight vibration at 60mph and above.
This year I took my own '03 800 and it was the same thing...vibration beginning around 60mph...

So is this the nature of the beast or do I have both bikes with  undesirable  conditions.  I'm no stranger to both vibration ('50 Panhead) and the lack of ... up to sonic speeds(BMW Brick).

Is it the chain/sprocket arrangement, the rpm of the 800, or something completely different??

Any  thoughts are appreciated......

and thanks..
