Well, for what I'm doing to the bike... I'll be moving the passenger pegs down and forward. I have a vintage HD Buddy seat (with the tall rail) that I'm fabbing a custom mount for. It'll set farther forward and a little higher up the gas tank, like the old Chum-Me and Buddy seats did, years ago.

The crash bar that I'm looking for used to be made by CycleArt Engineering... I wonder if there's one floating around out there?
Maybe I'll have to fab something? It shouldn't be too tough to do.

You see, we couldn't find a decent Drifter 800 that was in our price range, so we ended up with a really clean 2001 Classic. My brother, Dad and I have a load of old Panhead HD parts laying around (they still do the HD stuff) so, instead of getting myself a Fake Injun, I'm gonna build meeseff a Fake HydraGlide...

As soon as I can figure out how ta load pictures on here, I'll post a few of what I have so far...

If I remember well first 800 are not compatible with the crash bar, as the foot peg bracket is soldered into place instead of just screwed, or is it because of the seat. I know that the last time I emailed Ted we realized I couldn't install his crash bar, so you better ask!

I talked to Ted via e mail and he will be making some more parts as a small run and he has lots of orders. I am after a hand shifter.

The green SKAWT is owned by Debbie Taylor. If you search for RIP Hillbilly, you will find that her husband was just killed on his Drifter. Ted's design used to make a couple of kinds, in both black and chrome. Ted said at the last Drift-In, he was retiring from the business and was going to sell of his inventory. The second pic. is Ted's 800

You can get on the UK forum, and there is a lad there named Malcolm (who is on vacations right now for about 10 days) and he either has some or is making some more. Would not hurt to ask him, other wise not sure if Ted has anymore for sale.

Hi Gang-
New to the forum, so HELLO to all!

Wanted to ask if any of ya's have seen or heard of someone who makes or CAN make the old lookin' rear crash rails for the VN800 frame? I remember seeing a green bike that was done a few years back by a company called CycleArt Engineering, I think they were somewhere in St. Louis... But have had no luck in contacting them. I also saw a black and red 800 Drifter on youtube, it had the crash rails in chrome... I believe the bike was in New York or New Jersey.

Do any of you guys have any ideas? My wife and I have just bought a VN800 Classic that I'm gonna "FL-ize" with a bunch of different old HD panhead goodies that my brother I have laying around...

At one time, I owned a '99 Drifter 800 from brand new, till 2006. Shouldda never sold it!
We JUST ended up with the 2001 Classic 'cause it seems like Drifters are a grand or better over the price we got it for... Couldn't afford one!

But that's OK, I'd have changed Drifter around like I did my '99... I used a bunch of real '50 Chief parts on that one.

I'll be sure to TRY and post pics of the "new to me" Classic as I go... It'll end up looking like a 1956 FL!
