Aftermarket Exhaust and Air Cleaner

Thanks for all the input. Luckily it's the end of the season so I've got all winter to plan what I'm going to do with the bike when Spring rolls around.

Based on the input, it sounds like Hard Krome pipes with a set of baffles from http://www.smartpartz.com/hardkrome.html will be my best bet. After that it's time to brush up on my handy-man skills and see how much trouble I can get in to trying to Scooterize the bike.

And once I get a half decent day and some free time, I'll try to get some pictures to make everybody happy.

Crsh, this is for a different set of pipes, but the concept is the same for most all pipes with baffles.  Maybe a set of Hard Chromes and this mod might be just the ticket? http://www.gadgetjq.com/vhbagger_shhh.htm

I'll be following my good friend Greenbarns advice on the grampsize mod on my bike, since I have been following his metorship he has not steered me wrong. (how is that PC for sucking up)
He led me straight and right about the sprocket swaps and it has been really good for them 9 hour rides.

i have a roadhouse exhaust and really like it, but it would be hard to find one now. I prefer bikes with some sort of muffler as the straight pipes tend to be loud. That part is personal preference though. I want an exhaust that sound good but isn't so loud it gets annoying on long rides. The good news is that whatever exhaust there is, someone has probably uploaded a video to youtube.

I have an aftermarket air cleaner as well, but it came with the bike and I know nothing about it. It's a smooth teardrop air cleaner. Looks good in my opinion, and having a K&N filter I'm sure it breaths better than stock as well.

I have an 800 with the RH exhaust on it and jus think it is the perfect sound for the bike. You have to just keep your eyes and ears open to find a roadhouse they are far and few between.

Welcome to the forum, Crsh.  Congrats on the new Drifter.  It's a Beauty, I'm sure.... But of course if you put some PICTURES on here, it might keep some of the Picture Hounds from harassing you!!!

I have Hard Krome pipes on my 800, and yes they are a little on the louder side.  I like them for short trips, but (to me) they are too loud for longer rides.  For long rides, I much prefer the Roadhouse exhaust on my 1500.  It's much more mellow.  But, unfortunately, the Roadhouse is out of production, and very hard to find - but there are threads on here (somewhere) about several other exhaust mods - from de-baffling the stock muffler to adapting various other exhaust (Nomad, etc.) so hope you can find something that suits your taste.

Lots of good info on the 800 - including exh. stuff, and intake mods.

Specifically, on the intake mods, RussWolf has 2 mods listed - the "Grampsize" mod and "Scooterize" mod, both of which opens up the air box equivalent to an aftermarket kit.  I did the Grampsize mod and don't really remember needing any special tools per se - some of the tools I used perhaps made the job easier but could be done with simpler tools.  Take a look.

I just picked up my 2006 Drifter about a month ago (the day after I got my license) and, for the most part, am loving it so far. The only thing that disappoints me a bit is the exhaust note from the stock exhaust.

The only aftermarket system that I could find was from Hard Krome. I've read plenty of reviews and it sounds like they're a little on the loud side. Personally, I'd like to find something in between the two. I've also seen some pretty crazy sweeping exhausts throughout the forums and wondering where they came from. Any input/suggestions would be great.

I also understand that I'll have to jet the carbs. While I'm at it, I'd also like to improve airflow through the stock air box. I don't have the tools needed to modify my stock cleaner so I was hoping somebody knew of a good aftermarket replacement (other than a Hypercharger as those kill the Indian look of these bikes)?
