Vulcan Classic pipes on a drifter?

Thx Jack ,the stock classic pipes are very quiet all I hear with helmet on is wind noise ,without helmet I can hear slight rumble .I guess trying to get the right sound for me would be a project .

Hello,

I belive those after market pipes could be hard chrome . take mirror ,check at front header pipe between bolt flange  and heat shield it will be there little hard to locate it will be there.
now for baffles big city thunder will
have them make sure to check if you have hot tips . these baffles will change to a nice rumble . won't set off alarms . These folks make baffles
just about any size after market pipes out there . not hard to install takes a little time but well worth it I have them on my 02 . installed 2009

  Pork33 if you put stock exhaust on...lol......you would hear your passing of gas because I had mine on for a weekend, and I heard another one at a Ride For Dad, it was running about five ft. away and it was so quiet.....unreal. I am running a "stock" Roadhouse system and am really happy with it, loud enough deep rumble, but not a pain in the butt loud.

Yea I still have the no-name after market pipes if I wanna go loud again ,and your right about the sound I would like mine about a 3rd louder than stock and deeper if that makes sense ,but not the ear splitting sound of the other pipes .I did enjoy the search for pipes and parts and got to talk with a great drifter rider in Florida that was selling his drifter 800 for a 1500 and he was 76 yrs old .Now I have a Vulcan classic drifter a rare model. Only 1 made in a Philadelphia driveway .Funny thing now is you can hear all the lil bike sounds like the headlite rattle or the plastic side cover rattle and the wind . Will still look for a stock drifter exhaust ,but I think white walls are my next move and for some reason I like the skull hand mirrors that are out ,but I dont want to ruin the look of the bike.

Pork33: Thanks for the best answer vote, but the whole thing is a catch 22. Everyone wants a little more sound; most who have gutted the stock pipe aren't happy; those that switch to an aftermarket exhaust, usually don't sell the stock exhaust so they can keep their bike complete...etc. So it makes it tough on guys looking for the stock part.

My best luck has been figuring out which guys on e-bay regularly part out Drifters and keep watching their sights, but I'll agree the 800 stock pipe is harder to find.

On the sound...the smartpartz device only lowers the dbs a specified amount. You still need the right baffle in the pipes for the right sound. That's probably the hard thing to find, and yes, strictly looking at $$$, you can get it right, but it costs. I spent some money getting a roadhouse to sound right...it took time and more than I originally thought I'd spend, but it's there now.

Again, good economical solution....and if it gets too quiet for you again, you can look at Classic after market pipes. All the best.

I did look into baffles for mine ,but my brother did that with his bike then got a set of stock pipes for his 1100 honda .It did knock the noise down some what ,but it was still louder than he wanted ....So to save some time and money I just went for stock

Pork33: I know I'm a little late to the party, but did you consider baffles that are available to quiet the HardKrome pipes? I'm sure they are around. There is always the smartpartz universal baffle as well.

Your Classic pipes look good too....nice clean mod with stock Kawi parts.

  I am not a fan of loud pipes either, I once had Hooker headers on a CB 750 Honda, and my first long trip and a beanie helmet.......yup like Troll said no sleep that night. I find my roadhouse pretty tame compared to a lot of the pipes out there now.....

GB those do look really long for some reason.....

They are a little on the long side.  They go clear back to the bumperette.  They are louder than I would want them for a long trip, but fine on short trips.

No not loud at all ,they are the stock vulcan classic 800 pipes ....The problem I had was I wanted a motorcycle for the past 5 yrs or so ,then I saw a drifter and I hadda have 1 .So I find local a 2004 with 7000 miles on it for 3200$ .Only thing was that it had the after market pipes on it that were louder than s--t ,I guess thats cool for some and I did enjoy it when riding under an overpass and gunning it ,but dogs hated it ,people behind me wanted to get by me to get out of the shock wave ,babies cried ,car alarms went off .It was just to loud and trying to get a stock set of drifter pipes isn't an easy task ,I found 1500 pipes ,but not 800's .So I went with the vulcan classic pipes that are fairly easy to find on e-bay .
Guess some like it loud others not so loud .

Ok here are some pics of the vulcan classic pipes on the drifter 800 ......Only problem that I ran into was that the classic pipes would hit the trim rail on the rear fender ,to fix this I shimmed the bottom pipes mounting screws with about 4 or 5 washers and used longer bolts .The bottom pipe will pull the upper pipe over because its attached by the cross-over pipe that connects the 2 .I may also take the top pipe bracket off and put a slight bend in it .

I have a set of Hard-Kromes on my 800 and they look just like that...  I believe they are the "American Classic" model.

  Well Cobra had a set as well as Hard Chrome, and sadly to me they look a lot alike in pictures......but my eyes are getting old.....

They look a bit bigger than Longshots. Maybe Cobra? I think they made pipes like that too..

Did the Stock 800 Classic pipes have dual mufflers (same side) like the stockers on the Classic 1500 Model?  If so, anyone ever try a set of those on their 800 or 1500 Drifter - I'd like to see a picture (always liked the look of those dual shorties).
