Stolen from another forum..

I was at an agricultural show in 1977, looking for bargains in the trade stands.I had already got a good deal on a Barbour jacket and some boots. It had started to rain, so I headed for the Beer tent, and discovered some great Scrumpy....
After an hour, the rain had stopped, and I emerged in an extremely generous and jovial mood...to put it mildly.
I pottered into the middle of of a charity auction, in the the tent opposite. 'A great little jumper for the kids, you all now how good a Shetland can be..' I did indeed,my current Shetland jumper is still in service after twenty years.Okay,a bit thread bare in places and faded, but it still fits.
Anyway,my nephew was six at the time, and I thought I had had better buy him something. After all, I had bought some clothes for myself at the show.
I was chatting up a Farmer's daughter in the crowd, and bidding away in great spirit. I ended up paying nearly fifty pounds...way over the the top for a kid's jumper.
At the end of the auction,I went to collect the jumper and a WW2 Air raid Warden's tin hat.
'Your lots are outside by the Land ~Rover..'
There outside on the bonnet was my helmet, and tied to the bumper was a Shetland pony...
I never drank Scrumpy again.

John.
