Ok so I was not just thinking it, living in Sweden you should be able to find something that would be a long lasting slider for that location, like runners off of a ice shack.

You should see the inside of the average chain drive Harley in that area...Chewed through into the primary case, below the starter.

So that's why they went to belt-drive! 

RatMan, you're right, a rubber"thing" is supposed to be there, I just removed it when cleaning.
BTW, that "bar" that goes around the front of your front fender, where did You find that, and what's it called? Looks good. 
Think I'm gonna put a piece of nylon or similar stuff where the chain has been grinding off the aluminum.

  I think you are missing some sort of a spacer or something there, I can not find it on ron ayers right now but I seem to remember a rubber pad in that area......

After cleaning the area around the front sprocket it's obvious the previous owner didn't care much about chain tension...
