Its good to remember as long as you don't LIVE there. Each and every day I try to think more about today -  and perhaps a bit about tomorrow. The older you get the more difficult it becomes.

....ain't that the truth....it is all to easy to live in the past, it is good to reminisce, but a little goes a long ways....

Good to hear from you John.  I agree, things have sure change a lot - and not much for the better.  You keep hanging in there and riding that Drifter - it's keeping you young!

I agree with 49Reo, to have seen the ugly but not regard it with negativity is admirable.  It sounds like a good life.

Good memories and bad; a journey through life is full of both, It is nice that you can look back at the past, full of both, and not be bitter.

My health is failing and each year I have less energy, I still manage a thousand or more miles but I find it difficult to do the ordinary things that were so easy, like eating a meal and getting a good nights sleep, for me two hours is good..So I've done everything on my bucket list and the last great adventure will be the journey to meet my maker..and sometimes I think about the past My first visit to America in 1964 where everything was cheap for the working man, greyhound buses that would take you anywhere for a nominal ticket price..motels for $6 a night..food was cheap and everyone had a job..less than a year later I was in Viet nam, beautiful place with death all around, back a bit further and I was in the British army in the Yemen, really ugly place with death all around, before that Kenya when the Kings African Rifles revolted, and before that Germany during the cold war when I was awarded a medal by the city of Hamburg for flood relief..I went to the USA a few times after that and also Vancouver, I remember a pretty young girl I spent a day with in Seattle, I remember the Red Garter club in San Fransisco or Los Angeles, you paid a dollar membership fee and they gave you a wooden nickel which you took to the bar for your first drink, there was a banjo band singing all the old songs and a big notice Two Beers and everybody sings..they were right too, I remember being suprised that Honolulu was a big city and not just a beach with hula hula girls, I remember a girl who lived at laguna beach..or was that somewhere else.

With all the travel restrictions I will never leave this island nation again but I sometimes think about those days when freedom was spelled with a capital F and a British passport would take you anywhere outside of the iron curtain..

I have enjoyed my travels through time and history, I enjoyed Bob Dillon and Highway 61 Neil Sedaka and Calender girl and many other singers and songs and when I die I am going to be able to spit in the devil's eye and say I have no regrets.

Hows that for not Drifter related..
