Thanks lots!  I just did my first ever repair--changed out the odometer cable...and started looking for the fuel injector problem (see other posts)---so I think I can manage this...but I needed guidance... ;D

Line everything up and get all your bolts/nuts started and torque the nuts where your exhaust is connected to the heads before tightening the mounting bolts. You can use grease to hold the gaskets in place while you get everything lined up and secure. Be sure to torque the nuts on the studs because you don't want to over tighten them or snap a stud off. I think they are 12 ftlbs.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The grease will burn off soon after you start it.

You should replace the gaskets where the pipes bolt to the cylinder head. I prefer the gaskets for the Harley Davidson Evo and TwinCam engines; they are the same size and seem to work better.

I just got pipes that are THE SAME as the stock pipes...just in much better condition...do I need to know anything or can I just take off the old ones and put in the new ones? Is there something that has to go on the connections?
