Anyone ever powdercoat their factor exhaust black?

When I first got my 1500 the Vance Hines Longshots were spray painted black. The beginning of the next season I brought them to the powder coater who had to de-chrome? them prior to ceramic coating them. One thing to note, any sap, boot mark, etc. stays, no wiping it off.

take some scotch brite or some 380 sandpaper to your air cleaner and paint it whatever color you want.  you or the next owner can always re-chrome it if so desired.
same for your exhaust too.  I ruffed up the chrome finish and painted it flat black with that rattle can vht ceramic header paint and it it turned out great.   the heat of the exhaust will bake/cure it.
they do make high temp powder coat, but you'll save money if you go with the header paint.

I'm not sure if road house made a black exhaust  Some of the older owners might know as I've only owned my drifter for 3 years now . Hell took me 2 years to finally find a road house exhaust . If your finding them easily and come across one for the 1500 please keep me in mind  .

I'm not totally familiar with the 800 and what else from the Kawasaki part bid will fit it. However Rush makes a black 2x2 setup for the 900 (http://www.jpcycles.com/product/ZZ49487) as does Cobra (http://www.jpcycles.com/product/ZZ44115)

I would be doing a ceramic coating on the pipes for sure to tolerate the heat and PC'ing the air cleaner cover. I've looked for the Road House ones in black and didn't see them in a couple searches, but that would be ideal. The bike I bought is originally from sea level and then Las Vegas, so I'll probably be re-jetting anyways to deal with the altitude here and may as well upgrade the exhaust at the same time.

I am sure you understand that when powder coating exhausts you need a special powder due to the exhaust heat. That aside didn't Road House make a set of black black pipes for a Drifter?

   D1 agree with who is really going sell this ride, but at the same time have to be practical, If something happens or medical issues intervene in ones life then it will be easier to move the bike in a hurry if needed, and not have it hanging around because no one wants to buy it because of the strange paint job or some other reason.

Also keep in mind any item with high heat , such as your exhaust , will need to be ceramic coated . The air cleaner indeed can be powder coat .

Now for keeping the bike stock items is truly a good idea for resale , however who plans on selling there gem  not I  . IMOP personalization of these bikes is half the fun of owning them

now JMPO but I would not destroy/mod/alter any parts of the Drifter , not sure of the 1500 because I do not own one, but I have been hunting parts for my 800 since I bought it, seems parts of any type are getting harder and harder to find. I would buy after market parts and do my powder coating on them or what ever alterations you want on them, this way you can always go back and sell your bike as close to original as you bought it.
All the parts I have removed I still have in a box, and along with the stock exhaust, this will all go to the person on top of my inherit list once I depart.

and my ashes in the front engine guard so I can ride along with that crazy old man.........lol......

LOL excellent. I agree with that sentiment. If this was a run of the mill bike, I'd do mods with impunity, but that is not the case. I'd rather do it to spares or aftermarket as well. I was hoping to see a stock exhaust blacked out, but I may have to photoshop it!

Definitely noted. I used to have a 1999 Vulcan 1500 Classic so I'm pretty familiar with that motor and know it's FI and not carb'd like the 800.

I would think most VN800 air cleaners would work on the Drifter, but I could be wrong!

I love the look of the stock exhaust, but I plan to debaffle mine and was thinking of having it sand blasted and powdercoated black. I have also considered getting an aftermarket exhaust and powdercoating that black to keep the factory exhaust in tact to retain OEM parts for resale later.

Along the same lines, has anyone ever done the same to the air cleaner cover? I personally do not care for chrome, so I wouldn't mind ditching that large shiny bit of chrome right in the middle of the bike! It looks like it would be easy to pick up an OEM air cleaner cover on ebay for ~$50, so I may give it a shot with a second one to keep my factory one in tact.
