Thanks for all your help guys, this is one of those things that I will not know if I have made the right decision until I have ridden the bike for another year, but in the end I went for some stuff called Tiger Seal PU adhesive sealant, partly because I was limited in my choice of local suppliers and partly because it was recommended by a local who said it was so strong that once on I would never be able to remove it without removing any paint..as the paint is all out of sight under the tank and seat I figured that will be ok for me.

+1 for the silicone adhesive.  That, or the body emblem adhesive or molding adhesive - they are similar to silicone.  tape it on with masking tape and let it cure.

You might try a marina. They do sell marine grade adhesives. I have used them on my boat and they can withstand constant water contact and exteme conditions. Though you will not be able to remove the lights without removing either paint or other residue from bottom of bike or tank. Might no be a good choice for your application. A good pure silicone adhesive should do the trick with less damage to the surfaces when you want to remove or replace lights. It would remain pliable and withstand the weather as well. As with all adhesives, the key to any good bond is the mating surfaces must be clean of any oils, grease or other residues. Good luck!

other option would be to find a body shop and get the tape that holds the vehicle logos and badges on the vehicle.

I have a 5 mtr  string of waterproof LED's that I want to fix to my motorcycle, part of the run will be attached to the bottom rim of my fuel tank and although it is self adhesive I want to make sure that it will remain in place through extreme conditions, haet, cold, wind, rain, vibration and soap from when I wash the bike..I'm looking for a really strong adhesive and figured that something designed for use on a seagoing boat might be the best thing for the job..

Any suggestions..Brand name and any other details would be helpful because I'm not going to be able to buy from home depot or anywhere in the USA.
