Wow thanks Troll I found Racemom write up on this . I'm guessing mine will look the same as hers  :P

Ratman I'll look around to see if I can find the part # on these springs . I'm sure Greenbarn has them listed some where around here ...... LOL

Change the fork oil. The springs will come with a chart telling you the oil height in millimeters from the top of the tube to the top of the oil. There is a fancy gauge for this, but a wooden dowel, a metric ruler, and a sharpie are all you need. Remember, the legs must be vertical and the slider compressed to get the correct level.  Racemom91 just went through this a month or so ago...she was having handling problems at Drift-In and her neck bearings were all rusted up! I think she posted some pictures of the bearings after the replacement.

Than you Troll . Is there anything else besides the neck bearing add a zerk fitting and springs I should go ahead and replace while I'm in there ?

I got mine off amazon.com...you'd be surprised, I know I was...They were shipped from J&P cycles in Anamosa, Ia. They don't list them in their catalog, but they have them...go figure

Are you doing the 1500 progressive springs a la GreenBarn? I have decided that I am going that route, get a bit firmer ride would be nice.

Thanks for all the tips on this matter everyone . Being riding season is coming to a halt here very shortly I think I'm just going to go ahead and replace the fork steering neck bearing while I'm doing the new progressive springs and add the zerk fitting , as well . Is there anything else I should replace while I'm in this area ? Looks like the winter projects are lining them selves up for me this year  ;)

Lot's of things you should check..jack the bike up so the front wheel is off the ground, does it rotate freely..examine the tire for lumps..fix up a wooden bar with a stick of chalk attached to it so that you can slowly spin the wheel and test for true running on the sidewalls..grip the wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock and push and pull to check for bearing wear..
pull and release the front brake lever to check for binding pads..examine the line of the forks to see if they are bent..hold the bars with one hand and the fork with another and feel for steering head bearing movement..and check the tire for uneven wear..dont forget that the camber of the road can affect how the bike rides..

All of the above sounds a lot but should only take a short time although the drifter fenders can make the work more difficult..and there is always the possibility that trapped mud dried inside the fenders can cause problems.

Next take a close look at the chain, check for obstructions and wear..then the rear wheel and rear brakes..

Only you can see what is wrong with your bike because we aren't there but I hope this thread has given somewhere to start looking.

John.

You didn't mention rear pressure, I'm assuming you've got 32 - 40 ?
Any new accessories/speedo cable ?
Any leak on a shock ? Most curious.  ???

OK... this is going to sound a little off the wall, but...can you get the front end off the ground far enough so you can swing the wheel, unloaded, full lock, left to right? If there is ANY notchiness  in the steering, the neck bearings need to be replaced...this will make it handle VERY strangely

Did we not just have someone with their ride pulling left all the time? I can not find it here or was it the other Drifter forum......you might want to lift the front tire off the ground and see if there is any hitch or such in your steering. Check the spokes / discs / rotors........

Am I loosing my mind ? I went for a short ride today and my bike seems to be pulling left at times , especially while make right curves on the highway . (Not right turns in town ) It seems I'm fighting the bike to stay in the lane I want to travel in the curves . Hope this makes sense ? Now not that I make it a habit but , I was on a back road going slowly and took my hands off the bars and the bike goes straight . Checked the front tire pressure and it was fine ( 28 psi ) . HAs any one else experienced this problem in the past and if so how do you correct this ? I have to say , it's not fun to ride the scoot in this condition !
