Bunch of options here: http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/reviewpost/showcat.php?cat=13

I use these - they built in the throttle lock into the grips. http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/reviewpost/showcat.php?cat=13

Previously I had the vista cruise... I think I had to add an o-ring to work correctly.

The one I had was using the same principle, but it just let the throttle slide slowly to the off position and I tried adding a bit of rubber in to the gap but nothing seemed to work.

I changed my handlebar grips for heated grips which are thicker than the stock grips, then I went next door to a womans clothing shop and was given a free plastic coat hanger with a metal hook, I removed the hook from the coat hanger and tightened the loop slightly so that it fitted snugly to the throttle grip and slipped a small bit of brake bleeding hose over the shaft of the hook to prevent marking the front brake lever, As I rotate the throttle to the speed I want I push the shaft of the hook with my right index finger until it rests against the brake lever and holds the throttle at that speed, to release I just rotate the throttle off and the hook does nothing..I did the Iron butt in July using this to rest my right hand.

Throttle locks and such are supposed to be set just tight enough to hold, and loose enough so you can override them without having to release the lever in an emergency. Lubricating the brake band is important. A little petroleum jelly on the band inside where it contacts the drum. $35 for the plastic one, $40 for the chrome steel version. If I had it to do over, I would have opted for the steel one, since there is too much flex in the plastic arm. I like my cramp buster. I have one on each bike. Nothing is perfect, but they sure help on a long ride with lots of hills and curves where the lock wouldn't be appropriate. Not defending either one, just what I have that works for me.

I use one of these: http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/motorcycle-cruise-control/part/BAW-MCC it works well. A little fiddly to install butbonce set works perfectly.

I don't know how that one works, but maybe it's great.

On mine I had to adjust it to make it tight enough to stay.

ok I had one of them there cramp busters and took it off for the same reason you state. I had a throttle lock but it would not hold it slowly allowed the throttle to close. I have seen these and was thinking of getting one of them

but then might look at the local shop for one like yours. Thanks.

Sounds like these are about the same as what Troll described.
The cramp buster is pretty straight forward.  My bike came with it and I've left it on.  I'm not nuts about it - I would like to turn it "upwards" a bit, so that at 60MPH my wrist is more straight, but every time I advance it, then it sticks up too far at idle, and I'm laying on the throttle when I don't want to.  SO I leave it where it's at - not perfect but not bad.

My throttle lock is much like the one pictured here - I'm not sure what brand it was - it was the $35-40 one they had in stock at Iron Pony, our (somewhat) local shop.  I tend to use the TL a lot - my hand will start tingling so I'll lock it in and take a rest.

;)  GreenBarn tell me more about your throttle lock, visual person I am pictures would be nice, your cramp buster is what I think I did not like it.

I've got the same thing on my 800, a cramp buster and a throttle lock.  Seems to work fine for my needs.

I've thought about this issue for a while, now. I even went so far as to adapt an automotive cruise to my FLT....it didn't work very well. The one thing that strikes me about any kind of cruise control on a double cable throttle system is that the throttle grip will have to be free to turn, or you will have to come up with something that will actuate the throttle without moving the cables. The ride by wire systems don't have any cables, so the stepper motor that controls the throttle is what they use for the cruise...That being said, I have a cramp buster and a vista cruise installed on my Drifter....
