99 Drifter 1500 compatible engine

Any of the injected 1500s should fit. I read somewhere about a guy who bolted in a mean streak engine with no issues. The older engines are NOT going to work There are usually a couple of  engines on eBay. One of the newer members here works for a cycle salvage company...Starfruit Bongwater .....He might be able to provide some insight, as well as a source for parts.

Hi everyone. I just aquired my 99 Drifter 1500. I'm excited and a new proud owner of what I hope to be something I can get on the road asap. I hope you guys can help. I'm looking to have the engine replaced due to a loud knocking sound. I bought the bike as is. Everything works, so all I need to do is replace the engine and I'm good to go... I hope.

What motors are interchangable between the Vulcans? I have a chance to purchase a 92 1500A motor for fairly cheap. Will this swap work? Its my understanding that it should bolt up to the transmission fine. Also, I am aware that the earlier models only had a 4 speed and mine has a 5spd. Will this be an issue? I fairly mechanical but I've never tackled anything more then changing brakes, shocks, valve adjustments and axle swaps on my car projects. I might be in over my head but I'm ready for the challenge. To be honest, I've always wanted a drifter once I got rid of my Kawasaki 636 sport bike. What other engines are simple enough to swap in with out modification?
