Well, I always think it best to start small and work up, but there are plenty of folks who have gone right back to the big boys. This IS a heavy bike, so you will definitely want to get familiar with it before you start back riding two-up. Take it slow and easy... IMHO.

I haven't found much of drifting with passengers, but then, I haven't had much time to look around this site yet.  Maybe I'll get some time tonight.  (Looks like a great site from what I've seen so far!)

Thanks for the input.  I kinda figured that would be the answer.

So how much of a handful is the 1500 for someone who hasn't riden anything more then a scooter for say......30 years?

Personally, I'd go with the 1500 - I did - for all the reasons you mentioned. The 800 will handle it but you would be pushing it... plus I wanted the shaft drive, fuel injection and larger tank.

There's plenty of info on the website about two-up drifting.

I'm a pretty healthy sized boy (250lbs), and the wife is a bit more generous then supermodel sized (200lbs. ? I don't ask......I'm smarter then that!).  I haven't been on a bike in many years, unless you count my little scooter, but lately my wife and I have been thinking about joining the big boys and cruising in style.

The question is, based on this info, and the fact that I want to ride the thing, not twist wrenches every weekend, should I be looking at an 800 or a 1500?

The 800 looks like it'd be less of a handful on the road, but maintinence on the chain and carbs is more.  Also, I'm not sure about whether it'll play nice with traffic and such with the two of us on it.  The price is right though.

The 1500 looks like it can handle us OK, and maintinence looks better, but it's a lot more bike to handle and the price is a bit more steep.  I can swing it, but I just don't know if it's worth it.

What do you all think?
