25,000 miles on the chain?
that sounds pretty good!
is that fairly common to get that many miles out of a chain on these drifters?

Nono...the changed chain was no the original one. That means that a change each 20.000km is fairly common....

;)  I had mine replaced at 24188 kms 15030.137 miles, I was also told that they were original parts, so I called the PO and checked, up he never replaced them. so they were original parts. I did not get off as easy as Gerhardberger on the cost. I paid $49.98 per sprocket, and then $180.00 for the chain, then $160.00 for labour, so with taxes and out the door I paid $464.33, but if I can ge the same usage out of the sprockets and chain I'll be really happy.

GPS is not to get you THERE but rather to get you home from THERE

After 25.000 miles, my bike was making some noise from the chain. It was loose, and everytime i was fixing it, it lasted onlu a couple of days. I took it to my garage and new transmision kit (chain plus two sprockets), 156 usd...plus work 100 usd...thats makes a total of 250 usd for the complete repair....the real cost were 200 eur, heheheheh.
Is it more expensive at this part of the atlantic, or cheaper?
Regards from Spain...
